HH Sharjah Crown Prince Opens Week-Long Festival of Ideas and Innovations at Expo Centre Sharjah

MORE THAN 110 ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS TO SHOWCASE UAE’S AMAZING MARCH TO THE FUTURE 

Dubai, UAE, November 20, 2016:  His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, has hailed the crucial role the United Arab Emirates has been playing in promoting the spirit of innovation and enterprise in the country by encouraging new ideas and supporting innovators in various fields and disciplines. He lauded the visionary leadership of the country and the Emirate for heralding the idea of the UAE Innovation Week, which seeks to highlight the preeminent position of the country on the world map.

This came in his remarks at the launch of the UAE Innovation Week in Sharjah today (Sunday, Nov 20), being celebrated from November 20 to 26, at Expo Centre Sharjah, amid great fanfare with hundreds of innovators, scientists, academics, experts and students coming together to exchange and showcase brave new ideas, preparing the UAE for the challenges of the future. 

Speaking on the occasion, HH the Crown Prince of Sharjah said that sons and daughters of the UAE have played a key role in building the nation with their innovative ideas, helping promote knowledge, progressive ideas and a culture of excellence for greater progress of the country. He expressed great admiration for the innovations that are helping the community with new services and advances for a better life, saying everyone is looking forward to the exciting parade of new ideas during the UAE Innovation Week in Sharjah and all over the country. This scientific spirit of excellence, innovation and competition heralds a great future of new achievements for the Emirate and the UAE.

HH Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, later went around, inspecting various stands and pavilions showcasing the amazing ingenuity and diversity of ideas from across the Emirate.  He was briefed about various innovative projects and campaigns being showcased by various Sharjah government departments and entities. 

He praised the Organising Committee of the UAE Innovation Week in Sharjah, that is being held under the patronage of HH the Crown Prince of Sharjah and under the auspices of the Sharjah Consultative Council, for its efforts to put together such a successful event, which includes more than 30 Sharjah government departments, universities and private sector entities as participants.  He hoped that the week-long festival of ideas and innovations will make a positive difference to the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE.    

HH Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi reaffirmed the Emirate’s keenness to reinforce a culture of innovation and new ideas in Sharjah by providing an integrated, inspiring environment to strengthen scientific temperament in the Emirate and build a knowledge-based society for all-round progress.
“Guided by the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the spirit of innovation and excellence has been the driving spirit and fountain head of the progress and development in the Emirate of Sharjah,” he said.

The week-long festival of ideas brings together hundreds of experts, innovators and academics representing public and private sector organisations, universities and government bodies and is set to see more than 110 activities including, workshops, exhibitions, debates and skits.           

All the activities of the UAE Innovation Week in Sharjah are open to members of public and media. The exhibition hall of Expo Centre Sharjah has been divided into six sections with innovative names denoting a scientific spirit.

HH the Crown Prince of Sharjah was accompanied by HE Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman, Sharjah Media Centre, HE Sultan Ali Bin Butti Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the UAE Innovation Week in Sharjah besides a number of sheikhs and heads of Sharjah government departments and entities.
