Dubai, UAE, October 16, 2016:  Jordan Triathlon Association and Ayla Oasis Development Company (Ayla) have announced the details of the 2016 Ayla Oasis West Asian Triathlon and Duathlon that will run in Aqaba under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordanian Olympic Committee, on November 18, 2016. 

Hosted by Ayla in coordination with the Jordanian Olympic Committee, the race draws the support of the members of Arabian Triathlon Federation and Asian Triathlon Confederation.

The announcement was made at a press conference convened by Ayla and the Jordan Triathlon Association at the Ayla head offices in Amman and headlined by Eng. Sahl Dudin, Managing Director of Ayla, and Dr Tareq Khayyat, President of the Jordan Triathlon Association. The briefing was attended by several local and international media representatives. 

Ayla and the Jordan Triathlon Association have completed all preparations to ensure the success of the first-of-its kind race in Aqaba, and the second ever triathlon championship hosted in Jordan. More than 100 top ranking male and female triathletes from Jordan and across the wider region, are expected to participate in the event that combines a 750 m swim, 20 km road cycling leg and a 5 km run. Winners will receive cash prizes worth JD10,000 to be distributed among the top finalists.

Dr Tareq Khayyat, President ofthe Jordan Triathlon Association, said: “Triathlon events have been hugely popular in Jordan following the participation of Jordanian triathlete Lawrence Fanous in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Interestingly, he also finished 10th in the Asian Triathlon Championship. Through hosting the Ayla Oasis West Asian Triathlon and Duathlon, we seek to strengthen Jordan’s international standing as a leading sports tourism destination and raise the profile of such events in the country. The championship will help us discover local talents and refine their skills to international standards through providing them with opportunities to compete with professional players from across the region.”
