The SAMBA audio processor sets a new standard for middle ear and bone conduction implant systems Dubai, UAE, April 19, 2015 - Austria-based MED-EL, technology leader for hearing implant systems with more than 30 subsidiaries worldwide, launched its latest audio processor for the new Vibrant Soundbridge middle ear implant system and the Bonebridge bone conduction implant system - SAMBA - during the Middle East Otolaryngology Conference & Exhibition (ME-OTO 2015), happening this week in Dubai. With a completely novel, award-winning design, the SAMBA small processor is packed with sophisticated hearing technology and can connect to external devices via Bluetooth or telecoil. This enables the SAMBA audio processor to connect to smart phones, FM receivers and other assistive listening devices wirelessly, which sets in combination with its advanced adaptability to the users hearing preferences a new standard in processor technologies. New innovations for natural hearing The SAMBA’s primary feature is its ability to adapt to the personal preferences and needs of its users in various everyday situations. The Intelligent Sound Adapter ensures the audio processor adjusts to each hearing environment users currently find themselves in - whether it’s a conversation, loud music or the hustle and bustle of a restaurant. Additionally, it enables the SAMBA to memorise preferred settings over time. For example, if the user always turns down the sound in a noisy environment, then the SAMBA notices and stores this tendency. Adaptive, directional microphones recognise disruptive noises in the environment and automatically filter them out. This function is useful in situations where the background noise is particularly loud. It allows users to focus on their conversation partner, while high-volume noises from behind or the side are automatically blocked out. The special Speech Tracking programme makes it easier for users to hear in a variety of conversational situations. It allows the SAMBA to automatically recognise the direction from which the speaker’s voice is coming and adjusts the direction of the microphones accordingly. Drivers chatting with passengers in a car, for example, can now safely keep their eyes on the road without having to turn their heads to listen to the other person. Over time, the SAMBA’s hearing programmes become increasingly customised thanks to the automatic adjustment, which saves frequent readjustments and numerous visits to the audiologist. There are five programmes for specific hearing situations, each with its own individual settings. This means the device can be switched from one hearing situation to another by simply pushing a button on the SAMBA remote control. A wireless connection to the world In addition to user-oriented signal processing, the SAMBA can also be connected to a variety of external devices via Bluetooth or telecoil.* Signals from smart phones, MP3 players, FM systems and assistive listening devices can be transmitted to the audio processor with no loss of quality. Excellent design for individual adaptation The SAMBA audio processor has a special external feature: it can be worn in a different style each day. For example, it can be hidden beneath the user’s hair in a natural tone or worn more conspicuously in a bright colour that matches the user’s outfit or fashion style. Users can change the audio processor’s cover whenever they wish with a simple snap-off, snap-on action. The SAMBA’s innovative design has already won the prestigious Red Dot award. “MED-EL is proud to introduce the SAMBA processor here in the UAE. We have listened attentively to our users and worked hard to create a product that provides them with what they really want: quality, comfort and great designs. We are positive that it will be extremely well-received, especially by people who prefer using hearing implants discreetly under their hair, veil or ghutra,” said David Raetz, CEO MED-EL Middle East and Regional Director. He added: “The Samba audio processor reflects our commitment to provide users with the chance to hear their best throughout their lifetime. Users will not only be using a powerful audio processor, but they will have the opportunity to connect to external devices via Bluetooth or telecoil, which will enable them to connect to smart phones, FM receivers and other assistive listening devices wirelessly.” You can find more information about the SAMBA audio processor at medel.com/int/samba-audio-processor * Bluetooth and telecoil connectivity features are available with the purchase of the Siemens miniTEKTM
