Dubai, UAE, 8th March 2020:   University admissions and online tutoring specialists Crimson Education held an event at The Warehouse Gym in Al Quoz yesterday (7th March), targeting UAE-based student athletes.

The event, hosted by former professional footballer and Director of Crimson Athletics, Tessa Berger, provided UAE students with an invaluable insight into securing sports scholarships to top US universities.

Tessa Berger, who has represented New Zealand at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, flew in from New Zealand for the event, with a mission to inspire the next generation of sporting superstars. The 25-year-old provided a first-hand account of the challenges, rewards and opportunities presented by sports scholarships, as well as the qualities that coaches and admissions officers are seeking in candidates.

The event focused on the opportunities within the region, with Ms Berger offering key insights into the NCAA recruitable sports in the region, plus unique opportunities for club sports, such as Rugby as a pathway to university in the US.

Other areas of discussion included the student athlete lifestyle and the career opportunities available to US university students involved with athletic teams. Ms Berger spoke from direct experience, having developed the concept of her business venture The Merchandise Collective while studying in the US.

The event featured Ms Berger’s overview of US college athletics and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). She discussed how athletics impacts the application process, areas that scholarships cover for student athletes, and what coaches and admissions officers are looking for in candidates.

Highly regarded as a politician, environmentalist and business owner, Ms Berger attended Florida Gulf Coast University on a full athletic scholarship studying majors in business management and accounting. She earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average, gaining a place on the prestigious Presidents List honours.
