Dubai, 17th July, 2016: The UAE is experiencing a digital wave. Consumers are increasingly going online for all their needs. From booking air tickets to shopping for electronics, consumers rely on digitalization for convenience shopping. As such the UAE government aims to offer digital platforms across all works of life. In line with the Dubai Government strategy to promote ecommerce, Groon, the online grocery shopping app is the world’s first digital platform that provides ‘Cart Comparison’ to its users.
Created to offer the users a convenient option to order groceries online from the grocery stores in the neighborhood and avail the best deals, Groon aims to generate savings by Cart Comparing the prices and convenience from the different stores.
“This is the first time that an app will provide Cart Comparison to its users. Cart Comparison is similar to airlines ticket purchase option, whereby the customer will have the option to choose to order from more than one grocery at the time of “check out” to order based on the price and convenience,” said Ms. Sajida Yususf, Co-founder of Groon in a statement.
Groon has been designed to meet the growing needs of the online shoppers and also to tap into the huge market for online shopping in the UAE, which boasts of the highest internet penetration rates in the region. A report published by Ayfort suggests an increased growth in online payments; it also forecasts that the volume of online payments could increase nearly three times by the year 2020 to reach more than $69 billion of transactions per annum. *
“While most of the grocery shopping apps offer to only one segment of customers, Groon will be available to varied customers across Emirates. In addition, the big players are focusing only on large chain groceries, while Groon is the only platform which connects the single store and convenient stores. In total there about 13,000 small grocers in the country that are doing business jointly of about 500 million US$ annually in UAE. GCC wide this this number could go up to 10 Billion US$. There is high potential and with an organized and digital platform this could go further up and provide savings and profits across the entire system,” added Sajida.
With around 100 grocery stores partnered during its launch, Groon plans to have about 6,000 grocery stores onboard by the end of this year. Available as a web and a mobile version, there are around 4,000 different grocery items listed on the Groon platform.
“With over AED 1 million investments till date, we aim to attract angel investors and venture capitalist to inject into the Application to take it to the next level building a world class Grocery Online App ‘Groon’. We are also looking at expanding our portfolio to around 13,000 groceries across the country with an organic expansion in the GCC. In addition, Groon will soon be an augmented purchasing reality based app that functions on the buying and product pattern. Hence, the customers will not have to bother if there is no milk, eggs or bread at home. The App will be smart enough to keep a track and be able to send out the orders to groceries and ensure timely deliveries,” concluded Sajida.
The users can access the Groon platform through www.groon.com or download the App from App Store or Google Play Store. Featuring a unique hyper local interface that plans to grow across all Emirates, Groon aims at bringing back living in life so that users can avoid spending time in traffic, cashier queues, parking etc. for their daily grocery needs and rather do things that they enjoy with their family.
