Sharjah-UAE: 31 March, 2015 - Under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council, Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) is gearing up to host a distinguised award ceremony for the second Sharjah Government Communication Award (GCA) on April 5, 2015 at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre in Sharjah.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Asma Al Juwaid, Director of GCA, said that the Government Communication Award has the strong support of the government of Sharjah and various government entities, a reason it has gained high resonance and uptake in the UAE and the wider region. “This is clearly evidenced in the growing number of entries and the role that the award plays in the development of communication between government departments and the public,” she shared.

Al Juwaid added: “The second edition of the Sharjah Government Communication Award seeks to acknowledge the stellar efforts of local and regional institutions, groups and individuals in the overall enhancement of the communication process between government departments, the media and the general public. The areas that are recognised include strategic planning, internal communication approach, crisis management, and the effective use of social media platforms, among others.”

In 2015, GCA will honour winners in 12 categories, including three dedicated to submissions from the GCC region, six to entries from the UAE, and three to Sharjah-based nominations. Some of the key categories include ‘Excellence in Government Communication in the GCC’, ‘Media Personality of the Year’ and ‘Leadership in Media’.

The Sharjah Government Communication Award incentivises government communication professionals to implement best-in-class practices in their daily operations, and to proactively contribute ideas for the improvement of their departments. In turn, these ideas help departments develop efficient communication with their ultimate end users - the residents of Sharjah.
