UAE schools stump the audience with their Tech Quotient @TCS IT Wiz 2014 Winners to represent UAE at the International Finals Dubai, April 20, 2014: The fourth consecutive edition of TCS IT Wiz - UAE edition conducted and organized by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), received an immense response from schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Umm AL Quwain and Fujairah. Over 726 students from over 50 schools participated in the international edition of the inter school IT Quiz held at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Indian High School, Dubai on Saturday April 19. After an interesting preliminary round and some arduous and intense final rounds of quizzing in a nail biting finish Madhur Singal & Madhav Subramanyam from the Delhi Private School (DPS) Sharjah, walked away with the coveted winner’s trophy, along with an ipad Air and other prizes, closely followed by Alexander Thomas & Karthik Mallya from Our Own High School, Al Warqa’a as Runners-up who received their trophy along with an ipad mini. Varun Kapur, Vice President and Head Middle East, Africa and Mediterranean region, and Manish Prabhu, Country Manager for UAE, TCS distributed the prizes along with other dignitaries. “It was mindboggling sitting in the audience. It is indeed enlivening for us all to see an excellent display of tech talent and knowledge from these finalists. It’s a proud moment for us every year when we host this quiz to see that the future is indeed bright and in safe hands. 6. GEMS Modern Academy Twitter contest: This year TCS IT Wiz - UAE edition caught the student twitteratis' fancy in the auditorium. An interactive live Twitter contest was also organized during the quiz to engage with the students in real-time as a part of the social media outreach programme. Dubai witnessed a tweet count of 1638 tweets. As many as 113 photographs were tweeted during the hour long finals of the Quiz. The Quiz Format: The written prelims consisted of a common set of 20 questions for all the teams at the venue. Questions were in the form of oral, visual and audiovisual format. Participants answered the preliminary written round on pre-printed answer sheets given by TCS. The top six teams from the written prelims qualified for final. The winner from these 6 teams will represent UAE at the International Finals of TCS IT Wiz to be held in India during December 2014. About TCS IT Wiz:

Today, quizzing is not about what question is asked but how it is asked. The generation Y wants something fun and relevant. The best way to connect with them is through technology. Since last 2 years the TCS IT Wiz has been presented through animation based quiz software which has engaged the students in a generationally-relevant manner. The idea behind the animation-based quiz is to pack knowledge through the games people play and to make it generationally relevant. This year the rounds at the regional levels were based on current technology happenings. Hence the rounds were aptly christened -Data clouds, Big Data Visualization, IOT- Internet of Things and Pin Trust! The questions were innovative, ingenious, spanning the IT spectrum and foraying especially into contemporary topics. The ‘Data Clouds’ introduced the concept of having a package delivered via the Amazon drone consignment. The animation based software quiz also emphasised the importance of infographics as excellent learning mnemonics, which formed the base of the visual questions in the ‘Big Data Visualisation’ round. The ‘Pin Trust’ round rewarded the participants for pointing out the ‘wrong’ pinboard, which did not logically connect with the others. At the final frontier, the anxiety was apparent, with the teams racing for the buzzer even before the question was asked. Quiz Subject: The Quiz focused on application of Information Technology across various sectors such as the world of Internet and unique web sites, IT buzzwords and acronyms, IT Personalities - International, national and local, brands of IT and communication companies, software products and brands, the history of IT as well as its humorous side. The Quiz also covered areas where IT has made an impact - education, entertainment, books, multimedia, music, movies, internet, banking, advertising, sports, gaming, social networking, blogging, cell phones, etc. About TCS IT Wiz:
