ProVita International Medical Center in Al Ain is celebrating being awarded Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) this month.

The facility, which opened in May 2013 and is ProVita's second in the UAE, was successful in meeting the international healthcare quality standards for patient care and organisation management in a long-term care environment. The announcement comes ahead of ProVita Al Ain's inauguration next month when it will officially open its doors with a community event.

JCIA standards for long term care address quality improvement issues for non-acute settings, such as assisted-living facilities, rehabilitation centers, and chronic care facilities. Complete assessments include resident care and rights, medication management, resident and family education, infection prevention, and a variety of other performance-related topics.

Wendy Thomson, Director of Operations, ProVita Al Ain said, ‘'the whole team has worked incredibly hard since we opened to deliver the very best standard of care and support for our patients and their families. Our goal is to increase our patients' potential and we have already seen a significant improvement in their quality of life because of the level of individualised care and therapy provided at ProVita. To receive this recognition from JCI is testament to the team's commitment and underpins all our efforts.''

ProVita CEO Andrew Escamilla added: ‘'ProVita continues to be recognised as the region's leading long-term care provider for acute, ventilated patients and we are proud to push for internationally recognized standards such as the JCI Accreditation in this much needed sector of healthcare.''

ProVita first opened in Abu Dhabi in 2010 as the only facility of its kind in the MENA region to offer state of the art long-term care for ventilated patients and those requiring continuous medical and nursing intervention for serious medical conditions in a non-hospital setting.

ProVita is affiliated with Boston's Spaulding Rehabilitation Network, a Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital. The Spaulding Rehabilitation Network (www.spauldingrehab.org) is a recognised leader in rehabilitative medicine, long-term care and home care in Massachusetts, in the United States, and across the globe. Spaulding offers world-class inpatient and outpatient care through a network of six inpatient facilities and 23 outpatient centers, and home care through its sister institution Its mission is to provide exceptional clinical care, promote medical education, and advance research.
