• Yuweels compete in horse and camel racing, Saktoun rifle shooting, and traditional poetry
 
Dubai, December 13, 2020: Episode 2 of the 21st Fazza Championship for Youlah continued on Friday at the Meydan Fort inside Dubai Global Village. Competitors showed their skills in heritage sports, including rifle throwing (Youlah), horse and camel racing (outdoor activities), shooting, and traditional poetry.
 
During the episode’s live broadcast on Sama Dubai TV and Al Oula Radio the organising committee also announced the first two competitors to advance to the next round, namely: Humaid Al Shamsi, who garnered 80 points in Episode 1; and Maktoum Al Shamsi with 70 points.
 
The announcement of the qualifiers came after a review of the horse endurance and camel racing competitions held last week. A 5-km horse-riding race was held under the supervision of the Dubai Equestrian Club, in cooperation with the Al-Aweer Cavalry Police Station; while a 3-km robotic jockeys camel race was held under the supervision of the Dubai Camel Racing Club.
 
In the horse endurance race, Maktoum Al Shamsi came first while another competitor, Rashid Al Mansouri, finished second. In the camel race Al Mansoori came first and Humaid Al Shamsi finished in second place.
 
Yuweels in Episode 2
Another set of four Yuweels (Youlah performers) competed in Episode 2 over the weekend, namely: Muhammad Dhafer Al Ahbabi, Maktoum Bin Tarraf Al Mansouri, Abdullah Humaid Al Naqbi and Nahyan Saeed Al Yamahi.
 
Aside from Youlah, they also competed in traditional Emirati poetry as they recited verses from the poem of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. They also competed in Saktoun rifle shooting while horse and camel racing will be held this week. 
 
Welcome changes
Natalie Awadissian, HHC Director of Radio Stations Department, Media and Communication Department and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Fazza Championship for Youlah, noted the changes in this year’s Youlah championship have brought the competition on a higher level. 
 
“There are more heritage competitions that highlight and promote the essence of Emirati national identity. The changes in the format reflect the strategic goals of the competition, including preserving and developing UAE’s national heritage for future generations.,” she pointed out. Awadissian also expressed her appreciation of the participants and the organising committee for bringing the high levels of performance every week. 
 
Episode3
The next episode will be held on Friday (December 18). The public can watch the action at Global Village and it will also be broadcast live on Sama Dubai TV and Al Oula Radio. AL Meydan - a free App that can be downloaded (IS and Androis) for the voting.
