Formidable Tadej Pogačar Eyes Historic Fifth Tour de France Crown
  • World Champion raring to go after Tour de Suisse success
  • World-class UAE Team Emirates-XRG line-up ready to give their all in pursuit of yellow
News | Team –2nd July 2026
As the calendar turns to July, anticipation across the cycling world reaches its annual peak. The Tour de France has arrived. The 113th edition of cycling's most iconic race is set to unfold against the stunning backdrop of the French countryside, where 3,333KM of relentless terrain awaits. While the world's best riders ready themselves for the ultimate test, all eyes turn to one man: World Champion Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates-XRG.
Pogačar lines up on the start line in Catalonia in blistering form and with sky-high expectations. After lighting up the Spring Classics and conquering the Tour de Suisse with characteristic dominance, the Slovenian arrives with momentum on his side. A four-time Yellow Jersey winner, Pogačar now has his sights set on a historic fifth title, and a third in a row.
Pogačar: "The Tour de France is always the biggest challenge of the season and also the race that motivates us the most. Every year, you arrive at the start knowing that anything can happen over three weeks, and that's what makes it so special.
"We've prepared really well as a team, everyone has worked incredibly hard, and now we're excited to finally get started in Barcelona. I feel good, I'm looking forward to racing, and I know I'll have a fantastic group of teammates and staff around me. We have a lot of confidence in each other and have built up a lot of experience together over the years.
"There will be strong rivals, difficult stages and many other unpredictable moments, but we're ready to give everything. It's a privilege to wear these colours at the Tour de France, and we'll do our best to make ourselves, the team and the fans proud."
Supporting Pogačar is an exceptional UAE Team Emirates-XRG squad, a well-balanced blend of experience, power, and climbing prowess. Young prodigy Isaac Del Toro makes his Tour de France debut after rising to breakthrough success over the past year, ready to marshal the mountains and set the pace even on the most arduous of days. Trusted lieutenant Adam Yates returns to the line-up once again to contribute to further mountain support and shield his leader through the toughest tests across the three weeks, while American Brandon McNulty arrives in Barcelona ready to build on his solid form this season, providing support across the short, punchy climbs throughout the race.
Felix Großschartner and Belgian Tim Wellens will add 360-degree support to Pogačar's team, versatile workhorses who are dependable on both the flat and in the hills. Florian Vermeersch and German powerhouse Nils Politt round out the squad, tasked with controlling breakaways and guiding the team across the valleys.
But as always at Le Tour, success won't come easily. The battle for yellow is stacked with threats from across the peloton. Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard, twice a Tour de France winner, returns hungry to challenge for the overall Yellow Jersey after an imposing performance to win the 2026 Giro d'Italia. Hometown hero and rising star Paul Sexias will be looking to make his mark on debut, backed by a strong team and commanding performances throughout the early part of the season, the Frenchman will be one to watch. Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe talisman Remco Evenepoel rounds out the race favourites, hoping to rediscover his best legs on cycling's biggest stage.
The parcours promises fireworks. Seven flat sages, four hilly stages, and eight mountain days, each designed to test the riders to their limits. The race won't be won in the opening week, but it can certainly be lost. A rare team time trial sets the tone on Stage 1 for the Grand Depart in Barcelona, before the first real GC test arrives on Stage 6. The 195KM stage, featuring over 3,800M of climbing and three categorised climbs in the finale, will demand full alertness from every contender. With hilly stages sprinkled throughout the opening week, there will be no room to switch off for the race favourites before the first rest day arrives.
As the curtain rises on the Tour de France, Tadej Pogačar stands once again at the heart of the action, a champion with history in his sights. Backed by a powerful UAE Team Emirates-XRG squad, he returns to cycling's grandest stage not just to defend his title, but to raise the bar once again. With the mountains looming and rivals lining up, the quest for yellow vows to be as fierce as ever. Three weeks. One goal. The fight for the Maillot Jaune is about to begin.
