The Volvo Ocean Race has been won!

DongFeng Race Team claim OMEGA's winner’s watch

Dubai, UAE, July 03, 2018:  After sailing 45,000 nautical miles, across four oceans, touching 6 continents and 12 landmark host cities, the Volvo Ocean Race has been won by DongFeng Race Team. Leg 11 from Gothenburg to The Hague was the final stretch of the momentous race and provided the closest finish in its history, with DongFeng completing the 700 nautical miles in 3 days, 3 hours, 22 minutes and 32 seconds.

As the Official Timekeeper of the Volvo Ocean Race, OMEGA has been keeping a precise eye on the action from start to finish. The Swiss brand also has a more personal connection to the race, as two of its newest ambassadors - Peter Burling and Blair Tuke - were competing separately.

Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA, said, 'The Volvo Ocean Race must surely be the ultimate test of a sailor's skill, courage and character. Given how much time this crew has spent at sea, at the mercy of the elements, I can only express my admiration for these incredible athletes. We’re proud to present the OMEGA winner's watch to DongFeng Race Team and offer our heartfelt congratulations.'

Precise and robust, OMEGA's winner's watch reflects the tough sailing conditions that the competitors faced. The Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black “Volvo Ocean Race” Limited Edition 45.50 mm timepiece is a divers’ chronograph with a black rubber strap. Its case and dial have been crafted from black ceramic and the subdial at 3 o’clock includes a red Volvo Ocean Race ring with coloured hands and number 12. Another reference to the event can be found on the oriented caseback, where OMEGA has included the official “Volvo Ocean Race” logo.

Those unwilling to risk months at sea can still own OMEGA's winner's watch. But only 73 models have been created overall, in tribute to the year that the race first began.

Similar OMEGA timepieces were also worn by the on-board reporters of the Volvo Ocean Race. A series of insightful photographs, exhibited at host cities, dramatically capture their unique perspectives and show how the sailors and their Seamaster Planet Ocean “Deep Black” watches were pushed to their limits every day.
