Dubai, UAE, September 4, 2017: Eight riders from UAE Team Emirates were in action over the past two days, taking part in two consecutive back-to-back one day races. The team started with The Brussels Classic (formerly Paris-Brussels) on Saturday 2 September, where Slovenian rider Marko Kump came in second place following a sprint finish, making it onto the podium that saw Arnaud Démare (FDJ) win the race and André Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) come in third. The team then travelled to France for the Grand Prix de Fourmies (La Voix Du Nord) on Sunday 3 September, where Italian Simone Consonni finished fifth. The race was won by Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis Solutions Crédits) following a bunch sprint. The result was Consonni’s fourth top five finish of 2017. Commenting on the race, UAE Team Emirates’ Kump, said: “Considering the arrival order and who I ended up with on the podium, I can say that second place is worth a lot. However, it’s still a shame that we missed out on winning the race. Reflecting on the sprint I can see that there are areas in which I could’ve improved and done better. I’m in very good form and during the race I gave it my all.” Commenting on his results, UAE Team Emirates’ Consonni said: “Today the race became harder than it had to be because we didn’t manage to be in the break that formed - made up of many riders that drove the race. We had to put in the extra effort and work to contribute to the chase until we were finally able to catch up with the attackers 10km from the finish line. My team mates were very supportive and I gave it all I had in the sprint to try to make the most out of their hard work. With 500m to go, I got into a good position which allowed me to launch myself into a sprint. Unfortunately, that was still not enough to be able to make it to the podium like I had wanted.” The Brussels Classic race results 1. Arnaud Demare (FRA) FDJ 4:39:47 2.
