South African Meintjes 17th in GC After Stage Nine

Dubai, UAE, August 28, 2017:  Stage nine wrapped up with UAE Team Emirates’ South African rider Louis Meintjes crossing the finish line amongst the top 20 and as a result moved up in the GC standings by two places to 17th. The stage victory went to Chris Froome (Team Sky) who also retained the overall leader’s Red Jersey whilst Johan Esteban Chaves (ORICA-Scott) and Michael Woods  (Cannondale-Drapac Pro Cycling Team) came in second and third respectively.

 

UAE Team Emirates’ have a day off racing after nine hard stages and 1,534.4km, as Monday will see the first rest day of La Vuelta before stage ten begins in Caravaca Año Jubilar. At 164.8km long stage ten will see the peloton ride for 110km before hitting the climb to Collado Bermejo and then descending to a flat finish in Elpozo Alimentación.
