Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha’s casual dining Indian restaurant, Gharana, became a hotspot for the wannabe playback singers as the famous restaurant hosted the hotly contested finale of “Spice Stars – the biggest karaoke competition”.

The musical challenge, Spice Stars, was launched by popular Indian music station 105.4 Radio Spice to pay tribute to the two popular playback singers of the Indian film industry – the legendary Kishore Kumar and pop diva Sunidhi Chauhan, who were both born in August. The Gharana restaurant, which hosts Indian Karaoke Night every Sunday, played perfect host as the official venue partner.

Music is inherent in the genes of the Gharana restaurant as Karaoke is one of the essential fun elements associated with having a meal at the casual dining restaurant. Realising the hidden talent in the community members, the management joined hands with the popular radio channel, 105.4 Radio Spice, to host the biggest Karaoke competition in the country. It proudly contributed in discovering the hidden talent of the 10 finalists, who may pursue a career in music and carve a niche for themselves in the future.

The competition was launched on August 17th inviting everyone with good singing voices and a dream to make a career as a playback singer to prove it by registering on the website www.radiospicefm.com and providing a sound byte of their forte. All men were asked to pick a song originally sung by Kishore Kumar while women had to sing a Sunidhi Chauhan song.

Based on the quality of their sound bytes, the following ten finalists were chosen: Vishwas, Ranjini, Jahanazeb Khan, Prateek Seth, Anju Rajeev, Chandresh, Janina, Shrinath, Bushra Barday and Ashwathy Kurup.

As the finale began at the Gharana restaurant, it seemed that nothing was off limits for the contestants as they used their maverick vocals to impress the judges and the audience alike while belting one hit number after the other.

After a very tough decision, the judges chose to award Prateek Seth and Bushra Barday as the very first “Spice Stars.” The “mini celebrities” had their photos taken at Gharana’s Hall of Fame right after being announced winners.

“We feel honored to be part of this musical extravaganza, supporting Dubai’s own talented stars. The show turned out to be a huge hit among Dubai residents who were united in their support for the artists.” said Ramesh Padmanabhan, Restaurant Manager of Gharana.

The restaurant continues to host Indian Karaoke Night every Sunday offering diners a chance to discover their singing talent along with the resident singer, while the chefs prepare their favourite dishes from the A La Carte menu.
