[UAE, October 28, 2013] Dubai World Central (DWC), the world's first purpose-built aerotropolis, welcomed participants of the Freighters and Belly Cargo World 2013 Conference held recently in Abu Dhabi for an exclusive tour of its key areas – including the Al Maktoum International Airport (AMIA) and the Logistics and Aviation Districts. Mohsen Ahmad, VP for DWC's Logistics District, welcomed 100 international delegates from the freighter and airline sectors who were highly impressed by the various capabilities of AMIA which is on track to become the world's largest airport in volume and size, and will provide seamless connectivity to the Jebel Ali Sea Port via the Dubai Logistics Corridor. The delegation agreed that AMIA is generating strong global interest, especially among aviation-related businesses eyeing a solid base to cater to their domestic, regional and international clients. Phase 1 of AMIA, which includes a cargo terminal, is already complete and is operational 24 hours a day. The terminal covers a cargo handling zone with dedicated cold/special storage areas and a modular office zone for workers' facilities. In addition, AMIA's passenger terminal has already commenced operations. Guests also visited the Logistics and Aviation Districts at DWC where a number of major regional and international companies are increasingly setting up operations and leveraging DWC's unique multimodal capabilities and world-class infrastructure. “The very positive response from the visiting delegation affirms that DWC is indeed putting the right elements in place to meet the specific needs of the global freight and airline markets. The delegation agreed that our aerotropolis has far-reaching implications for the growth of logistics and aviation not only in the UAE but across the Middle East as well. We value the opinions and suggestions aired by the group which we will take into consideration as we proceed with DWC's development,” said Ahmad. “The tour we gave validated Dubai's claim to being a world-class cargo handling hub. Whereas before we were already drawing in huge aviation and logistics numbers via the Dubai International Airport, the Al Maktoum International Airport will turn the emirate into a formidable multimodal player. Dubai World Central's other specialized and integrated districts cover the Residential, Commercial, Exhibition, Humanitarian and Golfing dimensions of the mega development which is slated for full completion.
