 Dubai, September 10, 2013: Arabian Center, one of the most prestigious shopping malls in UAE, celebrates Onam on September 14, 2013 from 5pm to 9pm. Onam is a Indian traditional festival celebrated by Keralites from all over the world and is one of the Harvest Festivals of India. Arabian Center has partnered with Lulu Hypermarket, to celebrate Onam in the cultural way by organizing various activities like Kathakali, Shinkkarimelam, Puli Kali, Theyyam, Pookalam Contest, Mohiniyattam, etc. Kathakali is a very popular classical Indian dance form noted for dramatizing Indian Mythological epics and is extremely colourful with billowing costumes, flowing scarves, ornaments and crowns. The dancers use a specific type of symbolic makeup to portray various roles which are character-types rather than individual characters and are represented through fantastic make-up and costumes; Shingari Melam is a traditional rhythmic drumming activity; Puli Kali is a colorful recreational folk art from the state of Kerala; Theyyam is a popular ritual form of worship of North Malabar; Pookalam Contest will basically judge the participants on the best floral decoration done on the ground. Apart from this, Arabian Center and Lulu Hypermarket will also organise on-the-spot contests for its shoppers during this activity and will give away lot of prizes to the winners.
