SPRING - SUMMER 2016 COLLECTION Modern society is characterized by near and far cultures and Halaby looks for a synergy between two realities that are apparently poles apart. The Spring Summer 2016 collection perfectly embodies the harmony of Ancient Greece and Japan from the 19th century; two widely divergent but symbiotic cultures. Lotus flower and prints of Japanese kimonos are carried back in time to be mixed up with the paintings on the pottery from the Ancient Greece. Japanese tattoos are shown on the statues of mythological heroes; an extraordinary mix of differences. “It’s in my DNA”, states Gilbert Halaby, “I was born in Lebanon, a country where different cultures and traditions have met during the last Millennia– that’s what I am today. Where the others see differences, I see similarities and an opportunity for interaction – and my way of thinking is constantly represented in my work”. With strong and feminine silhouettes, this collection is dedicated to an independent woman who wears what she loves and who loves what she wears. As usual, Gilbert uses raw materials and an Italian handcrafted production: from suede to calf leather, from lacerated nubuck leather to printed calf leather, up to croc effect printed pvc. A pastel color palette characterizes the collection, among with other stronger shades, such as turquoise of the sea, red of the Sicilian chili pepper, Titian orange and green of the Lebanese cedar. The It-Bag Andrea is available in many sizes and colors, and it is unique since the joints of its handles are almond-shaped. The Halaby Spring Summer 2016 collection grows in an aesthetically eclectic atmosphere, characterized by a high quality sartorial design.
