Earth Hour Countdown: 2 days to go!

UAE set to plunge into darkness for biggest Earth Hour yet as landmarks switch off for the planet and community events are held across the emirates

Dubai, UAE: March 26, 2014. This Earth Hour, Emirates Wildlife Society in association with WWF (EWS-WWF) is calling on the UAE to join millions around the globe in switching off the lights for one hour this Saturday March 29 at 8.30pm. UAE residents and organisations are urged to switch off their non-essential lights for the hour as well as encouraging to step up their commitment for the good of the planet by making the switch to energy efficient lighting.  

Once again this year a number of key landmarks around the emirates will fall into darkness for the hour (listed below). There are a number of community events across the emirates for those interested in attending an event to celebrate Earth Hour (listed below). 

Organisations are also encouraged to forwarding any Earth Hour photos and details of their participation to EWS-WWF on earthhour@ewswwf.ae and to post this information on social media using the hashtag #EarthHourUAE

Khalifa Park
Organised by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City and ADMAF, starting at 7.30pm on March 29 is celebrating ‪#Earth Hour with music, dance and rhythm.‬

St. Regis at Saadiyat Island
Dine by candle light and eat Southeast Asian cuisine for a chance of winning AED1000 voucher if you can guess the ingredients.

Abu Dhabi Corniche Family Park 
Join a Yoga session followed by a guided meditation at the Art of Living Event held at the park, opposite ADMA/ADGAS building at 8.30 PM. 

Al Ain Zoo
Join Al Ain Zoo in celebrating Earth Hour on March 29, 2014 from 2pm- 7.30pm. Participate in a treasure hunt game, creative projects and listen to African drums.

Fairmont 
A ‘candlelit’ Yoga and Pilates session on the beach from 8pm-9pm on Saturday March 29. The hotel is also hosting a candlelit dinner in some of its outlets, sustainable menus, switching off exterior lighting and dimming lights inside hotel. 

Monte-Carlo Beach Club
On March 29, the Monte-Carlo Beach Club is hosting an educational family fun event to learn about marine turtles in collaboration with EWS-WWF. Priced at 50 AED per adult (children go free) and light refreshments will be served. A contribution will be made to EWS-WWF. 
 
Dubai

Bay Avenue in Business Bay
DEWA is organising a great celebration of Earth Hour at Bay Avenue in Business Bay. The venue has a great view of the Burj Khalifa.

Fairmont The Palm
Family friendly activity with live acoustic music performance on the beach from 6pm to 10.30pm. 

Amwaj Rotana
Catch acoustic performances and a poetry reading at a special unplugged concert on the terrace between 8.30pm to 9.30pm on March 29. 

Sharjah

Al Majaz Waterfront
EPAA and SEWA are organising a celebration from 7pm on March 29 with educational exhibitions and workshops, competitions as well as entertainment from clowns and candles.

Fujairah

Fujairah City Centre (outdoors)
Celebrate the hour with Fujairah Municipality by lighting candles for the hour and learning about being energy efficient.
