Karnataka CM launched Malabar Gold CSR Initiatives

Malabar Gold & Diamonds announced scholarship worth Rs 2 crore for 5,000 students across Karnataka, financial aid for 100 homeless

KARNATAKA, BANGALORE: 17th October, 2013: Celebrating 20 golden years in business, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, announced a series of CSR activities across India in areas of education, women empowerment, healthcare, housing & environment.

As a part of this, the gem and jewellery retailer proposed to provide scholarships worth Rs 2 crore to 5,000 deserving students across the entire Karnataka.

Besides, the company will be providing financial aid for constructing homes to 100 homeless people in the State.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah formally flagged off the retailer's ambitious initiatives, on October 17, Thursday, in city. 

Besides Siddaramiah, Home minister K J George, Shantinagar MLA N.A.Haris, Malabar Group Chairman M.P.Ahammed, Co-Chairman P.A.Ibrahim Haji, and Executive Director O. Asher, were present.

Stating that this was just a beginning of the group's CSR initiatives across Karnataka as it toasts its 20 years of business, Chairman M.P.Ahammed said similar initiatives are planned in other regions of the country and GCC as well, where the retailer has a major presence.

“Over the last two decades, the retailer, as part of its CSR activities has contributed substantially to the welfare of the society,” the chairman said. “So far around 4,35,000 people across India have received life saving drugs as a part of healthcare initiatives and round 7,500 homeless financial aid for constructing homes. Educational scholarships is being awarded to thousands of deserving students in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh,” the chairman added.

Realising teachers are true agents for systemic change in the education system - “Gurukul for Gurus” a training programme was launched in association with IIM, Kozhikode, to promote excellence in school education by providing integrated training for school teachers.

As part of ‘Green India' initiative Malabar Group launched “Zero Waste=100 Marks” campaign that aimed at promoting environmental awareness among the school children.

“Maalinyamuktha Keralam, Clean Mangalore, Clean Mysore” were other campaigns initiated by the group aimed at creating a ‘Plastic & Litter Free” world, M.P.Ahammed added.
