The new Sewage Treatment Plant will manage the municipal waters and treat domestic sewage

Abu Dhabi, UAE - 16 December 2018:   The Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), master developer of major tourism, cultural and residential destinations in Abu Dhabi, held an opening ceremony for the launch of the second Sewage Treatment Plant (STP2) on Saadiyat IslandÒ 

The project was delivered under the supervision of Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC). It is designed to service the entire Cultural, Marina & Lagoons Districts, using membrane bioreactor technology (MBR).

The opening ceremony of the Sewage Treatment Plant attended by His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of TDIC, His Excellency Abdulla Ali Musleh Al Ahbabi, Chairman of ADSSC.

Situated at the South East corner of Saadiyat Island, the Sewage Treatment Plant will handle an ultimate sewage flow of 78,000 m3/day on average. It is responsible for treating municipal waters and domestic sewage. 

The Sewage Treatment Plant is situated on Saadiyat Island, a destination of commerce, residence, and leisure, with world class developments such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Golf Club, New York University Abu Dhabi, and other iconic buildings. The objective of the project is to treat the sewage of the island and manage its water resources by recycling water for use in the island’s irrigation systems, in line with the sustainability standards of Abu Dhabi Plan.
