Dubai, UAE, September 6, 2017: UAE Team Emirates’ Louis Meintjes successfully defended his 14th position in the General Classification (GC) standings during today’s Stage 16 of the Vuelta a España. The South African placed 38th in today’s Individual Time Trial (ITT), with the stage victory going to Chris Froome (Team Sky). Froome also defended his lead in the overall GC standings, retaining the leader’s red jersey. Stage 17 sees riders travel from the Spanish town of Villadiego to a summit finish atop the Alto de los Machucos - the climb making its first ever appearance at the Vuelta. This stage could be the ultimate test of strength, stamina and reserve, as the 180.5km route consists of irregular terrain where riders will cover roads with a total height difference of 3,000m.
