Two Sides Discuss Ways to Boost Cooperation, Transfer Knowledge, Implement Best Practices in Food and Environment Laboratories

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 24 August, 2015 - The Central Testing Lab (CTL) of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) today hosted a delegation from the Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL), to discuss ways to enhance mutual cooperation and develop best practises for food and environment laboratories.

As part of the visit to CTL, the DCL team provided a detailed presentation on the best mechanisms and practices in receiving food and environment samples in the emirate of Dubai. For its part, the CTL team explained the activities carried out by QCC to achieve its ultimate goal of strengthening a sustainable quality infrastructure in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and to consolidate its position as a leading center for quality that conforms with global standards.

Mohamed Hilal Al Balooshi, Acting Director of Marketing and Communications at QCC, said: “We are delighted to host the Dubai Central Laboratory delegation, as part of the joint cooperation between QCC and DCL to exchange experiences, information and best conformity practices adhered to in the country and ensure that these are in line with international requirements and standards. At QCC, we welcome such visits from external and internal stakeholders and relevant quality-focused institutuions within the UAE, that we believe go a long way towards enhancing the quality and efficiency of services provided in Abu Dhabi and help strengthen our mandate to develop quality infrastructure throughout the emirate.”

The delegation from the DCL included Hawa Abdulla Bastaki, Director of DCL, Maha Al Hajri, Head of Food and Environment Laboratory of Dubai Municipality, Thekra Faraj, Systems and Strategies Specialist at Dubai Municipality, and Hanan Al Linjawi, Testing Department Manager. The meeting was also attended by His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Muhairi, Acting Assistant Secretary-General of Central Testing Lab, QCC.

CTL’s mission is to test and certify products against pre-set standards and to support the development of a quality framework across the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The lab’s current capabilities include testing food, water, pharmaceuticals and construction materials.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was founded in 2009 to raise the quality of Abu Dhabi’s exports and products traded locally, while protecting the interests of the emirate’s consumers and supporting its competitive economy. The organization’s goals are achieved through enabling regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. QCC also sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that the products manufactured and traded in the emirate conform to the highest quality standards.
