Dubai, United Arab Emirates, April 5, 2014: The Medical Education Department of the Dubai Health Authority recently hosted the Arab Board of Health Specializations exam in general surgery.

Fifty-seven candidates and 13 examiners from Arab Board were present during the examination which took place for the first time in Dubai.

Dr Jamila Al Shaikh, Director of Medical Education at the DHA highlighted the importance of this examination and said: “Dubai has gained a strong reputation in the field of medical training and we hope that the Arab Board continues to select Dubai as a venue for examinations across more medical specialties.”

Al Shaikh added that in addition to this specialty, Dubai also hosts the Arab Board of Health Specializations Examination for Family Medicine and that the final exam in this field will take place in Dubai in May 2015.

Al Shaikh emphasised that continuous medical education is an important criteria for the growth and development of medical professionals.

Dr Ashraf Ahmed, head of the academic affairs centre at DHA’s medical education department, said: “In future we hope that many of our doctors will be examiners for the Arab Board. Dubai is focussing on further strengthening its medical training programs and such opportunities are of vital importance to us.”
