In association with H.E. Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum, HMH - Hospitality Management Holdings recognised Ameera Abdel Rahim Binkaram, President of Board of Trustees of Friends Of Cancer Patients charity (FoCP), for her tremendous contribution to the fight against cancer in the UAE.
Presenting the HMH and Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum Excellence Award, Mr Laurent A. Voivenel, CEO of HMH, said: “Ameera Abdel Rahim Binkaram is a role model for all of us. She has been tirelessly supporting cancer patients in the UAE while raising awareness through her powerful campaigns about prevention and early detection of the disease. With her persistent and effective approach, Ameera has succeeded in drawing the attention of society to raise funding for the fight against cancer. She has no doubt taken the cancer cause beyond awareness into action through the Friends Of Cancer Patients Charitable Society and at HMH we are proud to salute this incredible woman. It is hard not be moved by the many stories of survivors who demonstrate their perseverance, altruism and endurance, and give hope to others."
Accepting the trophy Ameera said, "I am truly grateful to HMH and H.E. Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum for this honour. It is through the extraordinary vision of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Founder and Royal Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients Charity that FoCP is the leading registered cancer charity in the United Arab Emirates. I come from a family that has a history of cancer. Several members of my family have been victims of the disease so cancer is a cause very close to my heart. That is why I joined FoCP when it was established in 1999 in Sharjah. At FoCP our mission is to advocate and provide medical access to people afflicted by cancer in order to improve the quality of their life. We also create awareness among the public, under the umbrella of 'KASHF', and the Pink Caravan Ride which is taking place on March 16th since a lot of common cancers, if detected early, have a very high rate of survival. So I feel that this award should go to Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher, and other founding members of the FoCP and our team there, and our wonderful supporters in UAE community, without whom this success would not have been possible." HMH and Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum Excellence Award celebrates women who are an inspiration for others. Laurent stressed, "This award is a tribute to exceptional women who work for human welfare in addition to achieving excellence in their respective fields be it in healthcare, business, art, education, literature, culture, sports, environment or public life. Our aim is to bring to the fore more such women."
