Region’s first GRI certified training partner helps organisations compile accurate sustainability reports

Dubai, UAE, February 26,2015: The Arabia CSR Network (ACSRN), the region’s first certified training partner for the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), has reported a successful conclusion to its sustainability reporting training in February.

The sessions had been devised to help participants produce accurate sustainability reports that will support their environmental initiatives, with each one following the fourth generation of GRI, ‘G4,’ which was launched in the MENA region in Abu Dhabi last year.

Following the completion of the training session, the participants were able to identify and understand the main features of the G4 guidelines, recognise the tasks and decisions to be made to prepare a G4-based report and identify the content expected to be found within them.

“ACSRN’s training of organisations to use the GRI framework, one of the most established set of guidelines on sustainability reporting enables them to compile a well-balanced, accurate and reliable report that helps them better assess the impact of their operations on the environment. And it’s not just the environment that benefits either - organisation are waking up to the fact that sustainability reports increase their credibility with their stakeholders, which ultimately impacts positively on their market share,” said Habiba Al Marashi, President and Founder of  ACSRN. “Accurate methods of Sustainability reporting are becoming increasingly sought after in the Arab world, as cross-industry entities from both the public and private sectors are keen to use the process as a medium of disclosing their CSR practices and enhancing their transparency,” she added.

This training program was one of six that have been planned for the year in the UAE, with subsequent courses taking place in April, May, September, November and December. ASCRN has been instrumental in ensuring that the latest G4 guidelines are disseminated in Arabic and is conducting a number of its forthcoming 2015 trainings in the mother language of the region. “One of ACSRN’s landmark achievements in the area of training has been the introduction of the first GRI G4 in the Arabic language - a step that was strategically planned so that organisations in the region could report on their sustainability performance in their own tongue,” said Al Marashi. “This was a deliberate move to improve the take up of sustainability reporting and to help entrench it as a part of the corporate culture here. ACSRN strives to stay true to its Arab identity and to provide organisations in the region an effective tool to benchmark their sustainability performance and elevate it to world-class standards,” she added.

To date, ACSRN has imparted GRI certified trainings to 207 professionals representing 127 organisations. The network is promoted as the premium CSR and sustainability capacity building platform in the Arab world, offering professional training specifically designed to enhance ability around corporate responsibility and sustainability. ACSRN’s training programme for 2015 follows on from its successful 2014 schedule, which saw it conduct six GRI workshops and three CSR workshops, and will continue its sustainability journeys as it will launch the certified training on CSR Advanced in March 17-19, 2015.
