Hag Al Leila, meaning ‘for this night’, is an annual traditional occasion that is celebrated to mark the arrival of the Holy Month of Ramadan. It is an annual occasion in the middle of Sha'aban, the eighth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar where Emirati families and children across the UAE exchange sweets and memories of the occasion. In the late afternoon, children go knocking on their neighbours' doors, asking for small offerings by saying ‘Atoona Hag Al Laila', which means "Give us sweets for tonight". His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Maktoum Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, was the guest of honor at the celebration, along with Sheikha Fateem bint Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Mrs. Mariam Othman – General Manager of Rashid Center, and Mr. Khaled Diab Regional General Manager of QNET Middle East & North Africa. Abaya is the traditional dress of women in the GCC and Middle East countries. QNET will sell this product through its distributors around the world and a part of the proceeds will go back to Rashid Centre. During the Hag Al Leila celebrations, Rashid Centre’s troupe of young performers wore bright and colorful dresses, performed traditional dances, sang songs, played on drums and even cooked Emirati dishes. The children enjoyed the whole day with fun activities and received gifts of traditional sweets and nuts.
