3rd on the final stage for the Italian
Diego Ulissi finished off the Tour du Limousin with 3rd place on the uphill finish from Saint-Laurent-sur-Gorre to Limoges (174.8km). The result cements his 2nd place on GC behind Alex Aranburu (Movistar) after a very consistent week of racing.
Early in the stage the team had Alessandro Covi covering the large breakaway of 15 riders. This move would be brought back and in the final Rui Oliveira controlled the late attacks to line up Ulissi and Trentin for the uphill sprint, though they would run-out of road to catch Vincenzo Albanese (Eolo-Kometa).
Matteo Trentin took 7th place to place 2 riders in the top-10 for the Emirati squad.
Ulissi: “Today we got a good third place even though we were aiming to win the stage to get the bonus seconds to take the General Classification.
We worked very well as a team and I have to thank my teammates who put me in the best conditions to do well. However, we knew that Aranburu is very fast and we gave our all. I am happy with these four days and ready for the next goals ahead.”
