LG pushes smart home appliances forward with deep learning technology

New Intuitive Technology Brings Even Greater
Performance and Convenience to the Home

SEOUL, December 31, 2016 — To advance the essential functions of its home appliances, LG Electronics (LG) is set to deliver an unparalleled level of performance and conven-ience into the home with Deep Learning technology to be unveiled at CES® 2017.

LG Deep Learning allows home appliances to better understand its users, making lives simpler and more enjoyable. Using smart features including real-time sensors and Wi-Fi connectivity, Deep Learning picks up on the user’s lifestyle patterns and stores them in the cloud. After analyzing this data, it self-evolves to provide consumers with solutions that continuously improve their daily lives.

Robot Cleaner : Improved Performance by Remembering Obstacles
Using multiple sensors and LG’s Deep Learning, the new LG robot vacuum cleaner recognizes objects around the room and reacts differently depending on what they are. By capturing surface images of the room, the intelligent cleaner remembers obstacles and later learns to avoid them. It even recognizes wires and shoes, helping to avoid the frustration of it getting stuck or tangled up. Moreover, when the smart robot vacuum senses a person’s foot it will politely instruct the person to step to the side in a human voice. Thanks to this advanced technology, LG’s smart robot vacuum cleaner not only avoids objects but also generates the best cleaning route that maximizes cleaning effi-ciency.

Refrigerator : Superior Convenience
LG’s Deep Learning technology has also helped enhanced the convenience LG’s smart refrigerator brings to consumers. By analyzing lifestyle and usage patterns, the refriger-ator performs a variety of convenience-enhancing actions by recognizing the ins and outs of its user’s day-to-day routines. For example, the refrigerator automatically fills the ice tray based on the time of the day it is most frequently used. It also sets the optimal temperature 30 percent faster than the regular mode by considering the tem-perature of the stored food. In addition, the smart refrigerator enters power-saving mode when it is not being used like when users are sleeping or going to work. The smart refrigerator also automatically turns on the sterilization feature to prevent food spoilage caused by the high temperature and humidity of the summer season.

Air Conditioner : Energy Saving and Faster Performance
LG’s smart air conditioner equipped with LG Deep Learning analyzes the daily behavior patterns of its users including which area of the house they are most likely to relax in and the area where users doesn’t go often. With this information, the air conditioner is able to make these important areas around the home cool and comfortable by providing fast cooling to specific areas. For example, the smart air conditioner first blows cold air directly to the sofa where users frequently stay. Then, it works on other areas of the house like the corner of the living room.

“We are extremely excited to be introducing this cutting-edge technology at CES, inno-vation that makes daily life so much more enjoyable,” said Song Dae-hyun, president of LG Electronics and Home Appliance & Air Solutions Company. “By combining cloud based big data analysis and Deep Learning with our existing smart products, LG’s home appliances are now able to do so much more than ever before.”
