School rules: Nibras International School's Parent-School Contract unites teachers, parents and pupils in common goal

KHDA’s legally-binding contract promotes clear communication and transparency between schools, students and their families

Dubai, UAE - 19 September 2015: Tuition fees, absenteeism, mandatory subjects and adherence to school policies are just some of the key issues included within Nibras International School’s (NIS) Parent-School Contract.

Designed with the pupils’ best interests in mind, the legally-binding document will streamline communication between the parents of pupils attending NIS, as well as clarify the school’s own expectations of students and parents alike.

The American Curriculum School has implemented the contract as per the directive from Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). According to KHDA, all schools within the emirate must apply the document effective for this Academic Year.

Parents must visit the school in person to verify their Emirates ID and that of the student attending the school. This process must be completed before the Parent School Contract can be signed by both parent and school. Student Registrations must be completed by 15th November 2015; failure to do so will mean students will not be legally registered with KHDA. The signing of the Parent School Contract is a mandatory part of the student registration process.

“Embracing the KHDA’s Parent-School Contract is an exciting step for us at NIS and will undoubtedly further facilitate the on-going development of positive and constructive relationships between the school and our families. Students’ well - being is central to ensuring an effective educational experience, the Parent School Contract supports this in that it clearly outlines all parties duties and responsibilities and is beneficial to all stakeholders.” says Agnes Shaw, Principal at NIS.

In addition to giving parents transparency on annual school fees, refunds, sibling policies, curriculum delivery and assessments, the document clarifies the responsibility of students and parents - and outlines a clear set of consequences when school policies such as attendance, punctuality and behaviour are ignored.

“Having one set of rules that apply to everyone and that are embedded in a legally-binding contract will avoid any surprises and make it easier for school administrators to manage these potential situations,” continues Shaw.

“Parents are a valuable resource in the educational journey of children. With this in mind, the Parent-School Contract will ensure we all work in harmony towards a common goal: a happy, positive and successful learning experience for all our pupils here at NIS.”
