Sheikh Sultan visits Ramadan festivities at Expo Centre Sharjah

Sharjah, 8 July 2014 - His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, visited the Ramadan festivities being held at Expo Centre Sharjah on Monday night.

The one-month-long Ramadan & Eid Fair, which opened at Expo Centre Sharjah on June 28, is running parallel to the Sharjah Ramadan Festival, featuring a slew of shopping, cultural, religious and entertainment activities. It has drawn nearly 33,000 visitors until July 6.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan was accompanied by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Media Centre, Mr. Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mr. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO, Expo Centre, SCCI Board members and other dignitaries from Sharjah government departments.

“This year the Ramadan & Eid Fair is truly special, being held together with the festivities as part of the Sharjah Ramadan Festival and the Islamic Culture Capital celebrations. Going by the visitor response for the first week of the show, we can surely say that Expo Centre has become the centre of all attraction this Ramadan,” said Mr. Midfa.

Residents and visitors, especially families, have been thronging the venue every evening, with every available space at Expo Centre Sharjah being taken up with Ramadan-related activities.

“This is one of the most memorable Ramadan evenings I have ever had in my stay decade-long in the UAE. There are so many activities being held at the same time so much so that there is something for everybody at any given point of time,” said Mustafa, a visitor at the show with his family. “We might come over a second time next week,” he added,

While the Ramadan & Eid Fair will be held until July 28, the Sharjah Ramadan Festival events will continue at Expo Centre Sharjah until July 31.

The display from over 100 companies of an extensive range of lifestyle products is offering visitors a great opportunity to shop for their Ramadan requirements, while there are several entertainment and amusement activities that are targeted at the entire family.

“The ‘Taste of Ramadan’ is the toast of the show where visitors are able to enjoy fine food dished out by well-known chefs. Apart from learning how to prepare various cuisines, it also allows them to taste what is being specially made every evening,” Mr. Midfa added.

Other activities that are popular with visitors include Islamic lectures, Ramadan Night market, Book Fair, games & workshops for kids, heritage village, charity corner and raffle draws, among others. The Ramadan & Eid Fair is open from 8.30 pm to 1.30 am daily during week-days and 8.30 pm to 2 am on Fridays & Saturdays during Ramadan. During Eid holidays, the visiting hours are from 5 pm to 11 pm. Admission is Free.
