The Levant Countries' Pavilions Offer Unique Experiences for Global Village Visitors

Jordan, Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon provide Global Village visitors with a look into a world that is a mix between modern and ancient civilization

Dubai, 15 February, 2014: Global Village, Dubai’s leading family entertainment and cultural destination, plays home to many countries cultures during its season, all with their own rich cultures and enticing histories. The region that is often called the Levant consists of Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, and these countries combined offer visitors a fantastic overview of the diverse cultures in this region.

Often described as the crossroads for western Asia, the eastern Mediterranean, and northeast Africa, the Levant countries are known to have been the homes of many ancient cultures and the home to many historic events that have shaped the world. This deep running historical lineage is portrayed through the massive amount of love that each pavilion holds for its country and the products it produces.

Lebanon

The Lebanese pavilion offers a wide variety of products for a great experience for all visitors. Among the many stalls inside the Lebanese pavilion, visitors have the chance to purchase amazing cedar wood pieces with engravings burnt into them. The Cedar tree is a significant symbol in Lebanon, and visitors will be able to find pre-burnt cedar wood planks that have Islamic phrases carved into them, or they can ask for a specific phrase to be carved into cedar wood for them.

Beirut is often described as the Paris of the Middle East so this pavilion is perfect to visit when in need of picking up a wide variety of accessories. Gold plated necklaces and rings are all the range in this pavilion and fashionistas will love the great selection of jewelry to wear on special nights out.

Visitors to the Lebanese pavilion will also be able to have their portrait drawn by a skilled artist situated in the pavilion.

Jordan

Visitors to the Jordanian pavilion will find some truly unique products such as the camel skin lamp. These lamps are made out of layered and dried camel skin that is hand sculpted to take on the appearance of moons or squares. The lamps are then painted by hand and decorated for an aesthetic finish. The vendor will point out that one of the great things about these lamps is that despite how delicate they look, they will not break when dropped.

A whole host of stuffed olives and olive oils can also be found at the Jordanian pavilion. Some have chilies and other spices added to the olive oil to give extra flavor, and many of the olives and oils are said to have health benefits due to its freshness. Visitors can also find stuffed eggplants and olives for sale in the pavilion.

The Jordanian Pavilion has the unique Dead Sea Products on sale. The health benefits of the Dead Sea water, mud, and salt is widely regarded to be highly beneficial due to the increased amount of minerals in the water. The scrubs are widely used to exfoliate the skin and to give it a healthy glow.

The Jordanian traditional dresses are also very popular in the pavilion. The dresses, known as Jilbabs, are partly hand sown and machine embroidered. The dresses come in many fantastic colors and designs, and each has a specially designed hat and scarf that accompanies it.

Palestine

The Palestinian pavilion has a wide range of cheeses and olives on sale. Visitors can sample these delicacies before settling on the ones that they like. The wide range of flavors and spices used in these cheeses means there is a great selection for people with different preferences. The jars of cheeses are marinated with different spices to acquire different flavourings such as chili being added for a certain amount of heat to the cheese paste. Visitors can also find cheeses with mint and oil added for a cool and refreshing spread. Other cheeses have zaater or thyme added to them.

Overall the Palestinian pavilion is full of authentic Palestinian food products that can all be sampled before purchasing. The wide selection of olives and oils is another reason this pavilion stands out from the rest, with all olive oil being made from fresh olives.

Visitors can also find a great stall selling hand carved wooden handicrafts in the Palestinian Pavilion. These hand-carved items will look great around the home and can be great gifts to loved ones.

Syria

The traditional Syrian sweet baklava is a firm favorite, among the Levant region as well and is made out of filo pastry that is laid out in a tray, and soaked in butter, before having nuts - traditionally walnuts or pistachios - placed on top, along with more layers of the filo. The Baklava is then cooked and left to soak in syrup before it is ready to serve, making it a sticky, sweet experience that everyone will love.

Visitors can also opt for the unique Syrian ice cream that is made from mastic, cream, and fresh milk. In the cooler weather visitors may be more inclined to try the Balila - a warm snack that is made from boiled chickpeas with a lemon dressing - to help heat them up.

The Syrian pavilion also features fantastic wooden chairs with magnificent mother of pearl inlays that really make the chairs stand out. These beautifully crafted walnut wood chairs are each given their own name to show the high quality of the design.
Visitors to the Levant countries will experience the modern wonders and ancient marvels of these individual nations. With different products to sample and each country having its own culture stage for Dabkeh performances to take place on, visitors will be amazed by this historic region.
