Global resource management leader Veolia, through its subsidiary Veolia Water Technologies, has been awarded a contract by Dubai Municipality (DM) to engineer, procure and provide construction services to set up a Hazardous Liquid Waste Treatment Plant, in an effort to cope with the challenges of managing hazardous liquid waste in the emirate. Dubai, UAE, November 22, 2016: The agreement is a first of its kind in UAE, and aims to make Dubai ready for the anticipated increase in the quantity of hazardous liquid waste, as existing industries expand and new ones are set up. Thierry Froment, Chief Operating Officer for Veolia Water Technologies in the Middle East, commented: “Managing waste is a significant issue in today’s times, not just in the UAE, but across the world. Veolia is committed to developing and implementing solutions to manage waste effectively and we are proud of our partnership with Dubai Municipality.” The plant is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2017 and will be able to treat 200 m3/shift (3shifts/ day) of hazardous liquid waste, including acidic waste, alkaline waste, oily waste and wastewater. “Dubai Municipality has always worked towards ensuring world class waste management infrastructure. Veolia is a trusted environmental partner in the region and it is our pleasure to work alongside them to act on our shared vision of sustainable waste management in the UAE,” said Eng. Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director of Waste Management Department at Dubai Municipality. With its team of specialists, proprietary technologies and international knowledge, Veolia is perfectly geared to treating hazardous liquid waste which typically has very high and very diverse polluting loads. The plant, designed with various pretreatment systems each adapted to a specific type of hazardous liquid waste, offers the necessary flexibility required for such waste. In addition, it ideally matches Veolia’s mission goal which is to safely mitigate the environmental impact of its operations and optimize the hazardous waste management processing chain. Each and every day, Veolia’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) team makes sure that the most stringent QHSE standards and regulations are met.
