Fertility Awareness Campaign for Couples struggling to conceive

One in six couples facing fertility issues in UAE

  • Experts believe that nearly 50% of infertility cases are caused by the male partner
  • Focus on secondary infertility as well
  • The initiative aims to reduce infertility cases in UAE; offers special discounts on IVF packages during Ramadan

June 6, 2016; Dubai, UAE:   Addressing the increasing cases of infertility in the UAE, Bourn Hall Fertility Clinic, Dubai, will be educating couples on the various aspects of fertility in free seminars to be held on June 11 and June 25, 2016, from 1pm to 3pm at the Clinic premises in Jumeirah, Dubai. These interactive sessions are an attempt to help the couples who are struggling to conceive and seeking alternative options to treat infertility, and the attendees can use the platform to voice their concerns and get expert advice. The fertility seminars during Ramadan will enable people to understand more about their own fertility, why getting pregnant can sometimes be difficult and the tests and treatments available.

“There are many couples out there who have very little information regarding the causes of infertility, be it primary or secondary and its treatment,” said Dr David Robertson, Group Medical Director at Bourn Hall Fertility Clinic, Dubai, “Often they have no idea what the right time is to seek treatment. At times they approach us too early, while in other cases they inadvertently leave it for too late and this can create a number of complications. While there are several reasons why couples are unable to conceive, technically, a normal, healthy couple should start getting worried if they have been trying for more than a year without using contraceptives since this could potentially be a case of infertility,” added Dr David.

“With these seminars, we also aim to educate couples on proactive fertility measures and the latest available treatments and to address their problem as exclusively as possible. We also focus on secondary infertility which often catches couples off-guard. Such informative gatherings are extremely important in the UAE where infertility instances are higher than the average and in cases where time is of essence,” said Sudhir Bahl, Managing Director, Bourn Hall International “Our goal is to bring down the number, and in this regard, and going by the spirit of the Holy Month, we are offering special discounts on the IVF packages during the month of Ramadan to make it easier on the pocket of our patients.”

Statistical evidence proves that one in every six couples in the UAE is facing fertility issues, compared to one in every seven which is the global average. Unhealthy eating habits and lack of an active lifestyle are often the culprits, since they can potentially lead to a low sperm count and structural abnormalities in men, while reducing the ability of a sperm to fertilise an egg, sexual desire and libido. Among the UAE women, polycystic ovaries syndrome (PCOS) and obesity are found to be the biggest cause of infertility. Experts also believe that nearly 50% of infertility cases are caused by the male partner.

The seminar will also focus on couples experiencing secondary infertility and who are more at risk of delaying treatment, since they live with the happy knowledge of naturally conceiving their first child. It can be often bewildering and frustrating for couples who fail to recognise the tell-tale signs. Experts, identify that couples who have been trying to conceive for over a year and where women’s age less than 35 should see a fertility specialist. Similarly, in cases where the woman is over 35 years and the couple has been trying for 6 months should consult a doctor.

Bourn Hall Fertility Clinic specialises in providing solutions related to fertility as well as screening for genetic disorders. The Clinic has been instrumental is raising awareness regarding fertility issues and is a focal point for a number of couples seeking treatment for infertility.

Bourn Hall’s fertility seminars will take place in their 22,000 sq. ft. Jumeirah clinic located in Al Hudaiba Awards Buildings, Block C, 2nd December Street. The Clinic will be open from 8pm to 11pm, four days a week during Ramadan to provide services for patients who are fasting.
