Dubai, UAE - 7 April 2016: Dubai Film and TV Commission (DFTC) participated in this year’s Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC) from 7-9 April 2016, where props used in the ‘Star Trek Beyond’ filming were showcased for fans. At the MEFCC exhibition, DFTC exhibited the original Captain’s chair that was used during the movies’ filming in Dubai. Trekkies got a unique chance to fully experience being inside the movie, as those attending were given a photo opportunity with the chair, as well as having their own ‘Spock ears’ fitted. Star Trek Beyond USS enterprise landed in Dubai and filmed for two weeks in October last year in various futuristic locations around the city, including: Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Meydan and the Dubai International Financial Centre, as well as utilising the state of the art soundstages at Dubai Studio City. Jamal Al Sharif, Chairman of Dubai Film and TV Commission commented on DFTC’s participation at MEFCC this year saying: “Having Star Trek filmed in our city is a major step in making Dubai the leading media hub in the region. We were delighted that through this event, we were able to provide Star Trek fans the opportunity to interact with elements from the film before its release, giving them a sneak peek of what was filmed here. Jamal added: “Having such a well-known Hollywood franchise installation exhibit at this years’ convention, further strengthens Dubai’s status as a pioneering location for film makers.” Star Trek Beyond is set for release in July 2016 in the US and across the UAE.
