Additional Inspiring Films Upcoming at 'The 7th Art'

Abu Dhabi, 07 February 2016: “The 7th Art,” the increasingly popular film screening program initiated last fall by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, will continue through mid-May and will introduce two new highlights.

‘The Greatest Films of All Time,’ kicks off what will be an ongoing presentation of universally recognized masterpieces. During this winter-spring season, their bi-weekly 7:30PM Sunday screenings in the auditorium at Manarat al Saadiyat will alternate with the continuation and conclusion of the documentary series “The Story of Film.”

Meanwhile, the series will expand to take great movies outdoors as “The 7th Art Al Fresco” brings family-friendly films to different outdoor sites around the capital on Saturday evenings

“This inspiring new series has been tailored to offer the public the chance for big screen viewing of some of the greatest examples of the art of cinema,” commented Rita Aoun-Abdo, Executive Director of TCA Abu Dhabi’s Culture Sector. “The state-of-the-art screenings in Manarat al Saadiyat  auditorium will now expand to a variety of new sites around Abu Dhabi city and will engage with wider segment of Abu Dhabi’s community.”

All 7th Art presentations are admission-free and subtitled in Arabic or English.

The films will be introduced by veteran film expert Peter Scarlet, who has curated the program and who will lead Q&A sessions after each of the screenings.
These initial presentations of ‘The Greatest Films of All Time’ include four titles which appear on virtually every critic and film lover’s list of the Ten-Best films ever made:

THE GENERAL, Buster Keaton’s 1927 comic masterpiece, Sunday, February at 7:30PM

CITIZEN KANE, Orson Welles’ landmark gem of 1941, Sunday, March 8 at 7:30PM

VERTIGO, Alfred Hitchcock’s haunting 1958 thriller, Sunday April 3 at 7:30PM

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 sci-fi meditation, Sunday, May 1 at 7:30PM

The outdoor presentations of The 7th Art Al Fresco, all at 6:30 PM, will begin Saturday February 20 with THEEB, the first Arab film ever to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film screens in Mushrif Park.

Three weeks later on Saturday, March 12., Rob Reiner’s beloved fairy tale, THE PRINCESS BRIDE will be shown in the garden adjoining the Al Fanr Restaurant at Manarat al Saadiyat. Saturday, April 2 marks the screening in Corniche Abu Dhabi, of PK, the top-grossing Indian film of all time, with Aamir Khan starring as an alien who arrives on Earth and tries to sort out the dogma and superstition in which he finds the planet’s inhabitants mired.

Another comic treasure will conclude the outdoor presentations on Saturday, April 23 when Charlie Chaplin’s immortal THE KID (1921) screens on the Corniche. The great filmmaker’s first feature-length effort was first advertised to adoring viewers around the world as  “a picture with a smile - and perhaps a tear”  - and its appeal is undimmed nearly a century later.
