Al Ain, Abu Dhabi - UAE, Saturday 6th February, 2016: The UAE’s next generation of karting stars got their fledgling careers underway yesterday as the inaugural Students’ Karting Cup roared into life at Al Ain Raceway. The multinational field for the Students’ Karting Cup UAE - a new grassroots series which aims to boost domestic talent in the sport of karting - includes more than 100 youngsters competing in two separate categories: Junior (12 to 15-year-olds) and Senior (16 to 19-year-olds). Comprising children from the UAE, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, France, Morocco, Australia, the UK and Bangladesh, the field spent six hours in and out of their karts conducting numerous speed trials, races and absorbing extra-curricular lessons covering punctuality, adherence to safety and attention to rules and regulations on the circuit. “This day has been a long time coming - it’s great to see the kids out on the tarmac cutting it up,” said said Sayed Harris Hassan, CEO, PRODRIVE Sports Services, the Cup organiser and one of the UAE's leading independent organisers of individual and corporate sporting events. “Our hope for the debut Students’ Karting Cup is to capture the imagination of kids across the country and start them on their journeys to be the next Schumacher, Hamilton or Vettel.” The Students’ Karting Cup, which is supported by Abu Dhabi Racing (ADR) - the Abu Dhabi-based company that develops initiatives to boost the emirate’s presence in global motorsport - features one more round on Friday 16 February before the Grand Final on Friday 26 February.
