Field Visits Organized by Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government for Participants of Arab Leadership and Government Excellence Program Dubai-UAE: 11 November, 2014 - Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), a research and teaching institution focusing on public policy in the Arab world, organized a series of field visits to public sector establishments in Dubai for participants of the Arab Leadership and Government Excellence Program (ALGEP). Comprising 25 senior level leaders from government organizations across the Arab world, the participants witnessed and experienced first-hand the work methodology and thought processes applied at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Emirates Institute for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST), Dubai Police, and the General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). Commending the level of excellence achieved by the UAE’s public sector establishments, the participants particularly appreciated the pivotal role that customer happiness and satisfaction play in determining the direction of work in government establishments in the UAE. Dr Ali Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President, MBRSG, said: “We are keen to highlight the UAE’s world-class standards and experiences with public sector organizations in the region. The goal is to help build capacities in the public domain and ultimately drive development in the Arab world. The UAE takes pride in its achievements in this area and is always ready to share our experiences with those who wish to learn from us.” Aisha Al Shamsi, Executive Education Director, MBRSG, said: “We take pride in the level of excellence and achievements of our public sector establishments. The field visits offered participants of the Arab Leadership and Excellence Program insights into organizational excellence in leadership, customer services, and work flows.” Hana Al Kash, Manager of Arab Leadership and Government Excellence Program, MBRSG, said: “The field visits are an integral practical component of ALGEP, and provide first-hand experiences and opportunities to discuss, debate and gain insights. We thank all the UAE’s government organizations for welcoming our participants and sharing their expertise.” General Abdulrahman Almoqbel, General Department of Traffic, Saudia Arabia who is an ALGEP participant, said: “The visits proved highly valuable. We gained rich learning on the work methodology of organizations. To give an example, KHDA embodies the UAE government’s out-of-the-box approach in delivering workable solutions. KHDA’s employees are tasked with showing accountability that is based on objectives and goals rather than working hours. There are no closed offices for any employee and customers’ happiness and satisfaction are consistently monitored and publicly displayed for customers and employees to see. This was an interesting perspective that we gained during our visit. We are proud of the UAE experience and wish its leaders all the best”. The Arab Leadership and Government Excellence Program prepares leaders to deal with the multiple challenges of globalization and the high degree of competitiveness among institutions while honing leadership skills in the government sector across a variety of disciplines and fields. The program is delivered through lectures, case studies, practical exercises, workshops and field visits, in addition to thought sessions by prominent guest speakers from renowned UAE-based institutions and organizations. The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government is committed to promoting good governance through enhancing the region’s capacity for effective public policy. The school uses a four-pronged approach, which includes applied research in public policy and management, academic programs in public policy and administration, as well as executive education programs and knowledge forums for scholars and policy makers.
