Housekeeping department finds an alternative way to donate to Operation Smile RAS AL KHAIMAH, UAE - June 29, 2014 - The housekeeping team at Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa is helping a community of local children with a big smile. Over 20 team members organised a clothing collection as well as unclaimed lost and found items have been collected and a total of 129 kilogram of clothing has been donated to the children of Operation Smile. Operation Smile is an international children’s charity that performs medical cleft lip and cleft palate surgery as well as delivering postoperative and ongoing therapies to children from low to middle income countries. Operation Smile has been providing free cleft surgeries since 1982 through the help of medical volunteers and has provided training to local medical professionals in developing countries to strengthen healthcare in addition to 220,000 surgeries for children and young adults. Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft lip, and these children may have difficulty eating, speaking, hearing or breathing properly. In some places they are shunned and rejected, and in many cases their parents cannot afford the surgeries needed for a productive life. Vernanne Crisp, executive housekeeper at Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa, said: “To be given the opportunity to contribute to the great work Operation Smile does is humbling, and reminds us that we can each deliver something different to enrich others’ lives. It is often initiatives like these are carried out through the community arm of the Blue Energy Committee at Hilton that enlighten, brighten and keep us smiling.” Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa is a beach resort oasis on the northern tip of the Arabian Peninsula and set in a private bay with 1.5 kilometers of golden sand.
