Beach Rotana introduced the first ever food waste composting project within the Rotana group Abu Dhabi, 05 June 2014 - Beach Rotana Hotel Abu Dhabi begins 2014 with the strong commitment to sustainable and ecofriendly environment by implementing first ever food composting machine with in the Rotana group and within Abu Dhabi Region. It helps to reduce the percentage of solid food waste to landfill up to 85-90% and transforms this waste into organic fertilizer. This machine works on aerobic composting method. The needed time for this process is 24 hours from the last input to the machine. This machine is energy efficient as it is controlled by fully automatic and smart systems. Furthermore, it comes with two deodorizer units that control the moisture and odor produced by food waste using the carbon nano process technologies. General Manager Jörg A. Hauri, shares ‘Beach Rotana Hotel Abu Dhabi has a strong commitment in sustainable and eco friendly environment by initiating its first ever food composting machine within the Rotana group, reducing the amount of food waste placed into the composing machine lowers the cost of maintaining a landfill site and reduces carbon emissions , he added. The special guest of the inauguration of the food waste composting machine “The Paper Bag Boy” Abdul Muqeet confirmed - “By Composting, Beach Rotana is helping to protect the environment and also working for the cause of our economy, community, health and sanitation”. Additionally he mentioned that “Everything on earth can be recycled except time so take your actions fast”. “Food waste is one of the major challenges among the hospitality industry. As Hoteliers, we have to embrace sustainability as a life style and not only a single action. Therefore at Beach Rotana we try our utmost to incorporate it with the daily hotel operations” commented Dorsaf Teraoui, the Environment Health and Safety Manager at Beach Rotana. The Beach Rotana launches this innovative project that is one of its kind to celebrate The World Environment Day (WED) which is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet.
