Collaboration with Dubai Medical College and University of Dubai to promote sustainable national workforce in healthcare

Dubai, March 13, 2014: Sustainability in healthcare and knowledge economy are at the forefront for the UAE.

In line with these objectives, Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the University of Dubai (UD) and Dubai Medical College (DMC) during the second week of March, 2014.

Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will jointly focus on supporting medical education and research programs. The partnership will help implement academic programmes, consultancy, research, seminars and conferences.
A key outcome from the MoU with Dubai Medical College, the first private college awarding degree of Medicine and Surgery in the UAE, is the introduction of simulation training into the medical curriculum.
As part of the scope, the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Medical Simulation Center (KHMSC) at DHCC, a health and wellness destination that brings together a wealth of services in healthcare, medical education and research, will support the Dubai Medical College in simulation training, which is central to developing confidence and preparing for real-life critical medical situations.

The collaboration aims to strengthen medical education in the UAE and address shortage of physicians.

In addition, the MoU with University of Dubai entitles DHCC employees to partial scholarships, development programs, and professional certifications as well as job fairs organized by the university.
Dr Amer Sharif, Managing Director - Education, DHCC, said, “Through partnerships with leading education facilities such as University of Dubai and Dubai Medical College, we aim to bring concrete advancements to the opportunities for Emiratis and other medical students in the UAE.”

Dr Eesa Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, University of Dubai (UD), a leading higher education institution in the UAE, and the MoU signatory, said, “The University of Dubai is committed to delivering the highest levels of education to create future leaders. This partnership falls in line with our commitment to enhance the development and diversification of the UAE economy by equipping future generations with the skills needed to make a difference in every industry. It is also a significant step towards developing the UAE’s healthcare industry.”
Professor J.M. Muscat-Baron, Clinical Dean and Professor of Medicine at Dubai Medical College, who signed the MoU, stressed that sharing facilities and expertise is the only way forward. He said, “The MoU is a good example. The DHCC facilitates excellent clinical training facilities and the Dubai Medical College provides clinical knowledge and teaching experience.”
