Dubai, United Arab Emirates, July 24, 2018: His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) received a high-level delegation from the UAE Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR). The FANR delegation was headed by Christor Viktorsson, Director-General of FANR. The two sides discussed cooperation in the field of nuclear regulation and radiation safety. The FANR delegation provided an overview of their projects especially in the medical field. They discussed regulation and licensing requirements regarding ionizing radiation in medicine for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. Al Qutami highlighted that DHA facilities use low dosage radiation and that radiation safety is a priority for the DHA. He added that the Authority is keen to collaborate on all issues of radiation safety and training in the medical field. FANR has in place a National Radiation Protection Committee that has members from various organizations including DHA. FANR published a paper on low dosage radiation and mentioned DHA as a reference as DHA health facilities are an example of best practice in low dosage radiation in the medical sector. Dr Farida Al Khaja, CEO of Medical Support Services and Nursing Sector from the DHA also attended the meeting. Other FANR members that attended the meeting included Raoul Awad, Deputy Director General of Operations, Mohammed Sultan Al Zaabi, Deputy Director General of Administration, Aayda Shehhi, Director of Radiation Safety and Salah Al Hashimi, Director of Government Communications.
