40 make shortlist for Light Middle East Awards
Competition hots up for region’s premier lighting design honours
Dubai, UAE, October 2, 2017: With over 250 entries being submitted for this year’s Light Middle East Awards, the competition to be recognised as the leading lighting design project of the year, has intensified dramatically.
This was announced by organiser Messe Frankfurt Middle East while revealing a shortlist of 40 entries that have made the cut for the final stage of the competition.
Held alongside Light Middle East 2017, the Light Middle East Awards have grown tremendously in popularity over the years, as leading designers and developers compete for recognition as the most innovative design projects and the acclamation of industry peers, with increasing enthusiasm.
This year, the competition features nine project categories two product categories to accommodate the increasing demand for competition slots and the rapidly metamorphosing regional lighting design industry.
“The growing popularity of the Light Middle East Awards is an indication of how the lighting design profession has transformed into a highly competitive and increasingly cutting edge field,” said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Messe Frankfurt Middle East.
“The awards were instituted to honour the most talented and accomplished among our designers and celebrate their talent and achievements and we are glad to have seen the initiative succeed in gaining widespread support from the community,” he added.
Among the most notable of the projects in the running this year is Khalifa University from Abu Dhabi, which has been nominated for top awards in more than one category, being shortlisted for: Innovative Lighting Project of the Year; Exterior Lighting Project of the Year and Sustainable Lighting Project of the Year.
Among the others who caught the eye was Dubai’s Office of the Year in the Innovative Project of the Year - reputed to be the most advanced 3D printed office in the world.
The shortlisted projects were selected by a panel of five independent judges, with the ultimate winners to be celebrated at a gala dinner ceremony at the conclusion of Light Middle East on 19th October at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Light Middle East 2017, which will be 17-19 October will also feature the Think Light Conference, a two-day summit bringing together designers, architects, engineers, and developers to share insights, inspiration, and thought leadership in the lighting industry.
