Italian Mori produces another attacking display for UAE Team Emirates during stage seven of the Tour de France

Friday, 8 July 2017, United Arab Emirates: UAE Team Emirates produced another attacking display on stage seven of the Tour de France as Italian, Manuele Mori headed the breakaway group for over 200km. The flat nature of today’s stage suited the sprinters as they finished in Nuits-Saint-Georges. German, Marcel Kittel (Quick-Step Floors) produced another sprinting masterclass to clinch victory in the final metres.

Mori, whose father Primo Mori was a professional cyclist and had a stage victory at the 1970 Tour de France, fought hard to stay with the breakaway, but was caught with 5km to go.

Speaking after the stage Manuele Mori said: “Today the team’s target was to be in the breakaway and I succeeded in joining it immediately. We rode fast, however it was not enough to avoid the chase of the peloton. I’m satisfied I gave good exposure to the team and the sponsors, who are supporting a very interesting cycling project. Everybody in the team is trying their best.

“Before leaving home I was joking with my father. I told him I will try to also be a stage winner - I will try hard again!”

As riders make their way into The Alps, stage eight will provide the toughest test of the Tour to so far. Although the course is shorter than the previous stage (187.5km), riders will face a series of category three, two and one climbs in the second half of the course, as well as navigating narrow roads and mountainous terrain as they head towards the finish in Station des Rousses.
