Allocation in Line with Implementation of Will of Late Ahmed Baghlaf Dubai, UAE, November 15, 2016: Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) today donated an amount of AED5.7 million to the National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa (Awqaf SA) and Awqaf Australia. The contribution in line with implementing the will of philanthropist and waqf donor Ahmed Baghlaf aims to promote Islamic Da’wah and moderate Islamic values that prioritize the prosperity and well-being of people and societies. AMAF handed over an AED4.7 million donation to Awqaf SA of which AED3.7 million will be earmarked to promote Islamic values and Islamic Da’wah in several cities and provinces in South Africa. In addition, an amount of AED600,000 has been allocated to building religious schools, and AED400,000 to supporting promoters of Da’wah and related expenses. Furthermore, AMAF contributed AED1 million to Awqaf Australia of which AED500,000 will be leveraged to build schools that teach moderate Islamic values, AED250,000 for promoting Islamic Da’wah, and an additional AED250,000 to support Islamic preachers. Speaking on the donations, His Excellency Tayeb Al-Rais, Secretary General of AMAF, said: “Dubai has established global benchmarks in awqaf best practices as a result of its pioneering projects, initiatives and conferences. These efforts reflect the emirate’s keen interest in developing awqaf management, and ensuring that investment and spending serves and empowers diverse social segments and truly benefits those impacted by disasters across the world.” He added: “Through the financial support provided to international awqaf foundations via the late Ahmed Baghlaf’s will, we aim to increase awareness for the Islamic values of moderation, justice, and peace, and promote Islam’s key message of tolerance worldwide. We also seek to empower Muslim expat communities and enhance their capabilities through education - thereby enabling new generations to develop self-sufficient societies and countries and build a more stable world.” The provision towards Awqaf SA and Awqaf Australia honors the wishes of waqf donors - such as the late businessman Ahmed Baghlaf - who routinely contribute to AMAF’s Righteousness and Piety Endowment Fund. In addition to helping the poor and needy, such efforts significantly advance Islamic Da’wah.
