Lancôme Fall Makeup Collection 2016 LANCÔME LOVES… After dreaming up limited editions with fashion designers Alber Elbaz, Anthony Vaccarello, Jason Wu and Proenza Schouler, Lancôme has surprised once more with an emphatically trendy collection. Style, boldness and innovation... Introducing the key words of this limited-edition collection which, like previous offerings, is the perfect expression of the Lancôme philosophy: beauty carried by an innate sense of chic, an exaggerated love for colour, a real joie de vivre... And an unmistakeable French touch - naturally. This spirit resonates with that of another French fashion house which, like Lancôme, has symbolised the freedom of French women since its beginnings, seeking to put it out to the world. … SONIA RYKIEL Freedom, creativity, spontaneity... The iconic fashion label from Boulevard Saint-Germain and the make-up brand from Faubourg Saint-Honoré come together for an exclusive collection. A 100% Parisian partnership of two houses sharing the same outlook on femininity, elegance and beauty... with a gentle touch. SONIA RYKIEL & LANCÔME: LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
This encounter was meant to be: two Parisian houses cultivating a wonderful freedom of expression to help women thrive... Sonia Rykiel and Lancôme had every reason to fall in love and come together. Parisienne souls Two iconic French brands, two legacies and two lines of heritage... the houses of Lancôme and Sonia Rykiel are rich in Parisian history, coming together unquestionably in the same vision of femininity: free, optimistic and joyous. This is a French take on femininity, underpinned by ultra-sophisticated designs and a real passion for colour. The Parisienne exists: her allure is branded with Rykiel, her beauty signed by Lancôme. Bold... or even irreverent Dare to invent and reinvent: an infinite study in style, Lancôme and Sonia Rykiel invite women to an infinite study of style. With inventiveness, chic and occasional irreverence, both houses delight in offering unexpected designs to better surprise and captivate... And to reveal the boldest facets of the women who wear them. A colourful and prettily impertinent French style. Elegant... with a casual touch What if the Parisienne je-ne-sais-quoi, envied the world over, were no more than the art of effortless chic© they cultivate so well? The slightly nonchalant elegance that is neither too much nor too little... Sonia Rykiel clothing is so cleverly constructed that it gives the Parisienne allure an instant boost. The colours and textures of Lancôme make-up are so perfectly balanced that they immediately enhance the sometimes natural, sometimes sophisticated Parisienne beauty. For French women, it's a fact: less is more. Especially if they have their best allies for effortless style in their bathrooms and wardrobes. rykielism [noun ; riki&lisim] Rykielism is a sociological and stylistic movement founded in 1968 by Sonia Rykiel in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris' Rive Gauche. Rykielism extols the liberation of women through sensuality, intelligence and irreverence. Rykielism is about having the freedom to be oneself. It is a way of life that's chic and offbeat. Rykielism lives on Left Banks all over the world. Rykielism will arise in all the places where women cherish their freedom. SONIA RYKIEL: PARISIENNE SINCE 1968
Sonia Rykiel founded her eponymous brand in 1968 at the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The designer (along with her 'Rykielism' movement) celebrates the emancipation of women through her creative, sensual, intelligent and irreverent fashion. The story begins with the soft and comfortable knit fabric which frees the body from all restrictions and liberates its movements. This unique fabric will remain a house icon. With jumper-dresses and mini jumpers, Sonia Rykiel experimented with proportions and her modern and feminine knits met with immediate success. The collections have expanded over the years but the intention has remained the same: fashion made by a woman for women. The Rykiel pieces are flowing, often without linings and with exposed seams rather than seams against the skin. Flowers, hearts, sequinned messages and multi-coloured stripes - naturally - form the funky and poetic vocabulary of the Rykiel wardrobe. The designer has even broached the 'out of fashion' concept, underlining the extent to which her clothing should adapt to those who wear it and not the opposite. The freedom to be yourself has been Sonia Rykiel's message to women since her first shows. This motto is also true for the creative director of the house Julie de Libran. Since 2014, the French designer has updated and enhanced the house repertoire, cultivating a bold, quirky tone that is the perfect modern-day extension of Ms Rykiel's vision. This philosophy and spirit of independence are also intricately tied to the history of the neighbourhood where Sonia Rykiel founded the house. 'I want to make real things for modern women.' Julie de Libran Since the 1950s, Saint-Germain-des-Prés has been the ultimate meeting place for intellectuals, thinkers, novelists, film-makers and artists from around the world. It's the capital of culture and design, literary cafes and the most avant-garde nightclubs. It's the epicentre of romanticism too. And elegance, of course, as it’s there that we find the freest of Parisiennes. Saint-Germain-des-Prés is not just a neighbourhood: it's an attitude. And nobody embodies it better than the Rykiel woman who was born there. WHEN RYKIEL DRAWS SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRÉS FOR LANCÔME. One afternoon in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. In a literary cafe, a stylish, charming Parisienne changes the world with spirit. She’s full of excitement as usual. She’s the embodiment of independence and freedom. Her make-up mirrors who she is: fresh, modern, bold but always chic. By Lancôme, of course. Her mind flies... She imagines the cafe she adores repainted in a palette of bright shades. She imagines the glasses, books and pens on the tables sketched suddenly like arty illustrations. In a few seconds, she dreams that her world comes to life in colourful, fun and funky style. As though redrawn by Sonia Rykiel. Saint-Germain-des-Prés through Sonia Rykiel's eyes: here is the full story of this collection, created in collaboration with Lancôme. The heart of this joyful, vibrant and wholly Parisian fantasy fully resonates with the values of the brand embodied by a rose. Colour, cheer and spontaneity: very typical of Rykiel, these words have been shared by Lancôme since its very beginning. And we haven't even mentioned the French Touch, which seals the coming together of the two houses in this collaboration. Julie de Libran immediately expressed her desire to pay tribute to a Rykiel style icon: the multi-coloured stripe at the heart of the brand since the very beginning. More than a simple motif, the Sonia Rykiel stripe is an affirmation of emancipation, optimism and enthusiasm. These qualities are reminiscent of the House's creative director. Born in the south of France, she grew up in California before returning to Europe, this time to Milan, to study fashion at the prestigious Marangoni school. She quickly rose to prominence at Prada and then at Louis Vuitton alongside Marc Jacobs. Her French, Italian and American cultural references offer diverse sources of inspiration. Appointed creative director of Sonia Rykiel in May 2014, she initially immersed herself in the archives before closing them up and trusting her selective memory and instinct as she set about updating and magnifying the Left Bank world of Sonia Rykiel. The first element to emerge was the stripe. And the stripe now decorating this make-up collection is all-new: in blue, red, pink, white and khaki, the palette offers subtle vintage inflections as if to underline the comeback of the carefree sixties. And to (literally) sketch the elements symbolic of the Left Bank and complement the multi-colour stripe, Julie de Libran called on French artist André. Who better to interpret Sonia Rykiel's vision of Saint-Germain-des-Prés than this figure of Parisian life? From the street, where as a teenager he would sprayhis soon-to-be-famous name, to the Baron, a legendary fixture on the Paris nightclub scene, André’s career path has crossed with the biggest names in fashion. Splitting his time between Paris and New York, the ex-graffiti artist partners with Sonia Rykiel again in an expression of his early days. A wonderful story with beautiful illustrations. Books, pencils and coffee cups, not to mention the doe eyes for seduction and the red lips for the French kiss... André has imbued the Rykiel woman's world, so similar to that of Lancôme, with life in his upbeat, spirited style, inspired by Julie de Libran. So Left Bank. So desirable... The lips, the eyes, the book, the coffee: Sonia Rykiel and André's nod to Saint-Germain-des-Prés. - The lips made up in red evoke sensuality, kisses and speech.
- The eyes are reminiscent of vision, gazes, emotions and the seduction of a mysterious wink.
- The book refers to literature for which Saint-Germain-des-Prés is the historic bastion in Paris.
- The coffee evokes bistros and terraces like Le Flore and Le Rouquet, just opposite the House of Rykiel. It also evokes the small black coffee sipped in the morning while watching the well-dressed passers-by in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
- The heart represents love and more general feelings such as friendship, passion, family love and shared values like those of Sonia Rykiel and Lancôme.
- The pencil is a representation of writing, both letters and fiction, and is also the signature.
Combined, these items form a sort of Saint-Germain rebus... Draw Saint-Germain-des-Prés in colour. THE COLLECTION Parisiennes are fans of user-friendly make-up products, which are easy to apply with a customisable finish. Products which nonetheless offer an ultra-sophisticated finish. And which allow a quick makeover in the back of a taxi or on a cafe terrace... So Lancôme has collaborated with Sonia Rykiel to dream up on-the-go make-up products whose textures and design promise surprising simplicity of use. LA PALETTE SAINT-GERMAIN Lancôme has reinvented its eye palette in honour of Sonia Rykiel. Restyled in the colours of the collection, the brand's most user-friendly and versatile maxi-palette has become the season's must-have fashion accessory. In collaboration with Julie de Libran, Lisa Eldridge has come up with two harmonies inspired by the Saint-German-des-Prés style: trendy, chic, bold but extremely easy to wear. Rose and prune half-tones make up 'Parisian Spirit' while shaded bleu nuit, gris and kaki make up 'Saint-Germain '. Each of these two palettes contains six matte or iridescent powder eyeshadows, a special eyelid base, two liners hidden under a silver clasp, and a double-ended expert applicator. Everything a woman needs to create endless customised looks. PARISIAN LIPS - LE CRAYON As beauty experts, Parisiennes know the latest trends by heart. Particularly the blurred lips effect seen in fashion shows, which we can recreate by blending the colour of a lipstick to achieve a blurred look. With this in mind, Lancôme and Sonia Rykiel have developed the dream lip product for Left Bank women: the Parisian Lips pencil. Definitely the best tool for achieving this effect quickly and easily. How is it unique? It combines two tips for two textures and finishes on the lips. On one side is a translucent balm for gentle colour with subtle shine. On the other is a hyper-pigmented matte and wonderfully creamy formula. How to use it: apply the balm texture to the whole of the lips to deepen their colour, then dab on the matte colour-intense formula to the middle of the lips. This is the blurred lips effect reinvented by Lancôme to achieve that just-been-kissed look. So Parisian! Lisa Eldridge, make-up creative director at Lancôme, and Julie de Libran, creative director at Sonia Rykiel, have come up with four funky and vibrant shades with packaging decorated with the two designs created for this collection. French Sourire, a radiant pink which demands good spirits, and French Baiser, a radiantly sensual red, have adopted the stripe motif. Meanwhile, Parisian Audace, a deep and edgy orange, and Parisian Spirit, a radiant, charismatic purple, are adorned with André's motifs. VERNIS IN LOVE The iconic Lancôme nail varnish is available in four shades inspired by the multi-coloured stripes of the collection’s design. The colours are very sixties with really modern accents. They’re brilliantly updated vintage tones. Café Blanc. As its name would indicate, this is a white as immaculate as the final page in a novel just completed on a cafe bench. It offers a surprising and quirky tone. The emphatically edgy final touch to the look. Saint-Germain. A deep blue inspired by the raw denim adored by Parisiennes. It’s found on the favourite jeans they wear on every occasion, experts of a casual style that remains ultra-chic nonetheless. Café Philo. An intense khaki resembling the colour of an old book we're preparing to devour, as well as that of woodwork and the tables of a cosy philosophy bistro where we go to read, draw, talk and dream. Joie de vivre. Freedom, cheer, spontaneity... This bright and funky poppy red is a beautiful celebration of the euphoric and carefree sixties. THE CUSHIONS Always in search of a more subtle and natural look, Parisiennes are now fans of Lancôme's star foundation Miracle Cushion which evens out and brightens skin tone with a no-make-up effect. CUSHION CASE Sonia Rykiel and Lancôme have unveiled two cases to hold this must-have. Miracle Cushion, the travel-sized ultra-fresh liquid foundation can thus be slipped into collector cases decorated with the designs (multi-colour stripes and motifs by André) specially created for this collaboration. CUSHION BLUSH SUBTIL Whether it's from a burst of laughter, strong emotion, an early-morning stroll on the banks of the Seine or a kiss that brings out the pink of the cheeks... Parisiennes often have that incomparable, soft and gentle romantic flush giving them a lovely glow. To coincide with this exclusive make-up collection Lancôme has revitalised two shades of its brand-new Cushion Blush Subtil with its ethereal texture and soft-touch applicator. Presented in Sonia Rykiel collectors' cases, the soft Sorbet Rose and Splash Corail shades allow you to create a confusingly natural ultra-fresh flush like that of cool girls from the Left Bank. THE SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRÉS LOOKS Using products from the collection, Lisa Eldridge has created two wholly Saint-Germain-des-Prés beauty solutions: Parisian Spirit, a fresh, easy-to-wear look, and Saint-Germain which is slightly bolder and more sophisticated. PARISIAN SPIRIT Gently accentuated eyes, a rosy complexion, prettily impertinent lips and graphic nails: a classic, very Parisian look with a touch of fun for a subtle twist. The embodiment of what Lancôme and Sonia Rykiel do with perfection: elegantly shaking up codes. Smoky eyes With the Parisian Spirit palette. In the daytime, shade the three lightest shades (1, 2 and 3) on the eyelid and underline with the number 8 liner (violet purple). In the evening, go for an intense taupe smoky eye using eyeshadows 3, 4 and 5 and highlight with liner 9 (deep purple). Blurred lips With Parisian Lips-Le Crayon in French Sourire. Use the translucent balm on the whole of the lips. Then dab the matte formula in the middle of the mouth. Blend to achieve the desired effect. Graphic nails With Vernis in Love in Café Blanc and Café Philo. In the daytime, apply the white shade to instantly update the look. In the evening, opt instead for two layers of the khaki shade to achieve an ultra-trendy autumnal manicure. Natural flush With Cushion Blush Subtil in Splash Corail. Having evenedout the complexion with Miracle Cushion, dab on the blusher to sculpt and delicately illuminate the cheekbones. SAINT-GERMAIN A pretty hint of boldness on the eyes, the mouth and the hands... The colour moves up a tone, giving the smoky eye and petal mouth so popular with Parisiennes an ultra- contemporary look. The art of surprise as cultivated by Lancôme and Sonia Rykiel. This original and edgy beauty makeover remains chic and timeless nonetheless. Dramatic eyes With the Saint-Germain palette. In the daytime, create a smoky eye in grey and khaki tones using shades 1, 2 and 3, then finish with liner 8 (iridescent blue). In the evening, go for the intense blue look by shading eyeshadows 3, 4 and 5 together. Complete the look with liner 9 (deep sea blue). Blurred lips With Parisian Lips-Le Crayon in Parisian Audace. For the Saint-Germain look, apply the balm to the lips, then place the ultra-pigmented formula in the middle. Blend in using the fingertips without pressing too hard to keep the contrast between the centre of the mouth and its contours. Eccentric nails With Vernis in Love in Saint-Germain and Joie de Vivre. In the daytime, match the nails to the liner using the blue denim shade. In the evening, create a light-dark look with the dark smoky eye and the ultra-radiant red of the nail varnish. Natural flush With Cushion Blush Subtil in Sorbet Rose. Once the complexion has been evened out using Miracle Cushion, apply a touch of blusher to add some contour and radiance to the face. TWO AMBASSADRESSES IN PARIS...
Snapshots of Saint-Germain-des-Prés… A flagship store, a cafe, a cobbled street. Against these typically Parisian backdrops, two ambassadresses embody Lancôme & Sonia Rykiel beauty. Two women with chic, sparkling and happy personas mirroring this capsule collection by the two labels. Through the lens of photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Daria Werbowy and Alma Jodorowsky bring the spirit of the collection to life. Sonia Rykiel is a brand for sisters and friends. Photographed at the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, these two muses tell a story of feminine unity. While Daria redoes her make-up in the middle of a surprising flagship, Alma is amused by books that come to life. While she leans against a wall spray-painted with Andre's designs, Alma touches up her lipstick nearby in the wing mirror of her on-the-go Parisienne scooter. While Daria sits pensive with her coffee, her partner in crime takes the opportunity to delve back into her favourite novel. Made up by Lisa Eldridge, Make-Up Creative Director at Lancôme, these cheerful ambassadors personify the fun attitude and effortless elegance typical of Saint- Germain-des-Prés. They are the very embodiment of the make-up vision shared by Lancôme and Sonia Rykiel: the fun and colourful approach that is as spontaneous as a burst of laughter.
