Fall-Winter 2016/17 Collection

Creative Director at PAULE KA since July 2015, Alithia Spuri-Zampetti reveals her first collection during Paris Fashion Week.

For this collection, I was simply inspired by the Ateliers. When I first arrived at PAULE KA, I discovered that the House had workshops with such a level of excellence. This was so beautiful we simply had to tell this story, says Alithia Spuri-Zampetti. For this first presentation, the Creative Director imagined a journey through PAULE KA’s workshops, recreated at the Palais de Tokyo in four conversing spaces. These four themes compose PAULE KA’s Fall Winter 2016/2017 collection, both precise and contemporary; they enhance the House’s identity and recall its DNA, such as the idea of Parisian couture, which Alithia Spuri-Zampetti has endeavored to reinterpret with a sensibility of her own. With its new volumes and sophisticated fabrics, this wardrobe is designed for today’s women.

Graphic lines
Geometric pattern are a reminder of the Sixties inspiration, a key element throughout PAULE KA’s history. Wool jacquard, squared neoprene or technical wool build here a new series of daywear pieces, from a duffle coat with emphasized proportions and a fabric-embroidered buckle, to these trapeze jackets and skirts, a familiar shape for PAULE KA. On a leather coat, the edges have been painted, outlining and modernizing the look. See-through organza tops, as light as the wind, are also contrasted with black piping.

Playing with volumes
The Atelier’s paper patterns and the white calico toiles inspire the first chapter of this wardrobe. The first models appear in a very couture kind of way, out of velvet or houndtooth neoprene, flannel wool gazar. Sculpted gabardine pants have deep pleats on the sides, while an ottoman poplin shirt is lightly swung in the back, and lingerie boning gives structure to a top. Proportions and volumes are new: the allure is incredibly modern.

Couture bows
The bow is also an iconic couture detail in PAULE KA’s vocabulary: Alithia Spuri-Zampetti has reworked it since her very first precollections. Here it is getting even stronger, reunited with volumes, sometimes dancing with circles and spirals. Again, the palette looks very couture, from a pink duchess satin dress enlightened with a strong red bow, to another one in black velvet neoprene, awoken by a pink bow, like a punctuation mark.

Trompe-l’oeil and lace flowers
Silk jacquard, printed satin, embroideries and lace… Eveningwear by PAULE KA reveals itself in all its glory. The trompe l’oeil is the last theme of this journey. Numerous layers of pleated lace have been placed on top of each other then scanned. This unexpected print is used on dresses, suggested in three different lengths, or on voluminous evening coats. Sophisticated embroideries were also printed on the fabric. Over-embroidered for a 3D effect, the dress moves in a brand new way, aerial and modern.

Accessories and jewels
Accessories are the last part of this new chapter in PAULE KA’s story. An oversized knot is placed on an evening clutch in duchess satin, while a horse-riding cap is trimmed with ruffles on the visor. The pin holder the seamstresses use in the workshops inspires a cuff bracelet whereas a large brass ribbon waves around the neck. On its center, a strass pendant is confined inside a magnifying glass. Finally, drawing inspiration from the House’s archive, are four models of platform shoes (derby, loafer, sling back mule and stiletto).
