Inspired by the movement and ritual on which the collection is based, the twirling dance of two inseparably linked bands, the Possession film features women who, empowered by their ring, seize the world: “Turn and the world is yours”. The ring becomes a companion, a talisman; a ritual, a poetic reflex, an intimate impulsion that enlivens, enhances and transforms reality. Before the camera of feature film producer, Nicolas Bary, a fashion designer, a close-knit mother and young daughter, as well as two friends eager for travel and adventure, alternately become instant heroines filled with life and pure emotions, as if captured live. Separate stories that are nevertheless connected by the same thread unfold and intertwine, weaving a tale that reaches a peak, to the point of sweeping viewers into the final whirlwind ending. Amid an ethereal atmosphere imbued with a resolutely modern aesthetic, Nicolas Bary’s image celebrates women and movement, an endless source of beauty all around us. The theme of the skits of which the film consists is of snapshots captured at different moments in a woman’s life: some evoke daring, others creativity or independence; these scenes are at times rock’n’roll and mischievous, and at others muted and serene. Through its editing, music, script and universe, the entire film revolves around Possession’s circular movement, identity and signature.
