BMW smart apps, services and assistance systems wow for the ultimate driving experience Dubai, April 2, 2015 - AGMC, the official BMW Group importer in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, showcased a range of ConnectedDrive features from the brand’s suite of in-car technologies at the 2015 STEP Conference yesterday, including the first ever public demonstration of a key safety feature that gives AGMC customers 24-hour access to the Dubai Police Call Centre - BMW ConnectedDrive Emergency Call. With the world’s most progressive and technology advanced sports car - the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid - taking centre stage for the showcase, tech fans, car enthusiasts and visitors alike flocked to the tech, design and gaming event to get a closer look at the supercar and experience its innovation first-hand. Taking place on Tuesday 31st March at the Dubai International Marine Club, the first ever live demonstration of the BMW Emergency Call facility by the brand’s top experts was a highlight. Auto-activated in the event of an accident, crash sensors via the passenger restrain system automatically alert the Dubai Police. The sensor, which can also be activated by pushing the SOS button, tells police the vehicle’s position and data, such as airbags deployed and passenger occupancy. This not only ensures speedy action, but also that the rescue services know the type of accident and are prepared when they arrive on the scene. Michael Keller, Regional Marketing Manager for BMW Group Middle East, said: “We were delighted to introduce our entirely innovative BMW ConnectedDrive system, which ensures BMW drivers enjoy a safer and more comfortable driving experience, to the who’s who of the worlds of technology and innovation at the recent Step Conference. It was fantastic to see the cutting-edge technology, specifically BMW’s Emergency Call, spark debate about the future of in-vehicle connectivity amongst delegates - especially in relation to the world’s most technologically advanced and progressive sports car, the BMW i8, which was a natural fit for this technological event.” A Brief History of BMW ConnectedDrive At the beginning of the 1970s, BMW began work on networking its vehicles’ own systems, not only with each other but also with the outside world, in order to create innovative information, communication and assistance systems. Since those early days, enormous progress in networking has been made primarily driven forward by the creative, innovative strength of the BMW development engineers. Many of these innovations have set standards for the entire automotive industry. Fast-forward to today, and the BMW Group has created something truly unique - BMW ConnectedDrive, a range of completely new technology features that interconnect the driver, car and environment for a safer and more comfortable driving experience. During STEP Conference, the company demonstrated live on stage a number of these features, including various Services & Apps exclusive to AGMC, and Driver Assistance, which are common in all BMW models. STEP is a technology, design, and gaming event in the Middle East, bringing together the latest trends, more than 50 international speakers, and up to 100 startups, activities, up-and-coming indie music, and the best of Dubai's eclectic food scene.
