173 du employees promote corporate wellbeing with Dubai Marathon participation

Dubai, UAE, 7 February 2014: du's third year of participation saw 173 of the company's employees tackle the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon, held on 24 January. This year saw the highest number yet of du employees taking part, encouraged by the company as part of its internal wellness programme and Every Step Counts national wellness campaign, both launched in 2013.

Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Commercial Officer, du, was amongst the 136 men and 37 women from du who took part, three of whom finished the full 42k marathon. As part of the du's Executive Wellness Campaign, which was launched in 2013 to set a positive wellbeing example from the executive level down, Al Hassawi completed his first 10k in 1 hour, 7 minutes.du's marathon runners began their preparation for the race in December, training in the company gym and in Safa Park.

'To have so many of our employees embrace the challenge of the Dubai Marathon this year is a very exciting sign of how we, as a company, have adopted a wellness culture,' said Dr. Mansoor, Director of Medical and Occupational Health Services, du. 'Encouraging a healthier lifestyle for our colleagues, as well as for our community through our Every Step Counts campaign, promotes better productivity. We are committed to fostering healthier choices across the UAE, in support of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.'

With the wellbeing of its employees being a top priority, du launched its employee wellbeing campaign to promote healthier habits, which can then be passed on as a positive example to family, friends and community in the spirit of the company's Every Step Counts national wellbeing campaign. Part of the employee wellbeing campaign is the executive fitness programme, which sees the company's senior management prescribed wellbeing regimens, overseen by Osman Sultan, CEO du. Sultan himself is overseen by Ahmad bin Byat, Chairman, du, who was recently awarded first prize in the Masters of the Masters Emirates Fitness Challenge.
