Renowned UK Urologist to Promote Awareness of Male Infertility in UAE

Bourn Hall's Dr. Oliver Wiseman will host a free fertility seminar on male factor infertility

As part of its ongoing fertility awareness campaign, the inventors of IVF Bourn Hall are bringing renowned urologist Dr. Oliver Wiseman to the UAE for a free male fertility seminar on Monday 9th December 2013.  Male infertility is the factor in around 50% of infertile couples worldwide and research suggests this figure may be even higher, at around 60%, in the UAE.

According to Dr. Wiseman, ‘'contributing factors in the UAE include environmental and lifestyle aspects such as heat, poor diet, obesity and smoking. There are also thought to be genetic factors, which are an important cause. The social stigma also tends to greater for men, leading to an overall lack of awareness and reluctance to seek medical advice. This means many couples are unable to get the help they need in order to address what may be a simple problem; we are hoping to educate men about some of the causes of infertility, how they can optimise their fertility, as well as the various treatments available to them.''

Dr. Oliver Wiseman is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Andrologist, based at Bourn Hall in Cambridge, UK. He is internationally recognised thanks to his work training and teaching sperm retrieval techniques worldwide. Dr. Wiseman undertook his medical training at the University of Cambridge, and is also a Consultant Urologist at Cambridge University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He has undergone extensive training in andrology and microsurgery in both the UK and the USA and is currently pioneering the use of micro-TESE in the UAE.

Bourn Hall Dubai recently launched its new fertility awareness campaign aimed to help people understand more about their own fertility and the different tests and treatments available, with a series of free seminars. The seminars also offer couples the opportunity to tour the state of the art facility and see behind the scenes what happens at a fertility and IVF clinic.

Bourn Hall's fertility seminars take place in the 22,000 sq ft Jumeira clinic located in Al Hudaiba Awards Buildings - Block C. Dr Wiseman will host a male fertility seminar on 9th December at 7pm and is offering a limited number of free, individual five-minute consultations following the event on a first come first serve basis.
